Okey, youre in Northern Sweden, the Lappland high mountains just on the border of norway. Its early august, in the two weeks that looks as summer in this parts of the world.
You have been in the stream during the day flyfishing and now its some trouts frying in butter in your pan and a cold beer just goten digged out from the snowfield where you had it during day.
The seight is very wide because the campplace you chosen, and the tent, stands on a small hill beside a lake on a flatter part of the highland. No trees or bushes is there to reduse your sight in miles after miles because this is the 900 meter level over ocian. But there is soft grass in the campplace to stetch out upon.
Behind the norwegian high mountains you see many kilometres away a thunderstorm from the atlantic is building up but this weather will probobly dont come over to your place. You are going to stay here for a couple of days and you are tired in the back from carrying 30 kilos of campinggear and food 15 kilometers, and a good deal uphill.
The plan for the early night is to drink some coffee, mabye another beer, a zip of single malt, talking to your fishingfriend as you have some catching up to do. Liening there in the grass with the thunderstorm far west as a cenery to look at you will eat some dry sossage and wittle some. With knife do you want to bring for the purpose?

For me a trip like this means a homemade scandi for fish and cooking, a leterman for the fishing gear and a slipjoint for fun. Lieing there in the grass locking west eating sossage and drinking a cool beer after a fysicaly hard day I want a carbon jackknife with a natural handle material that helps me come into contact with eternity.

Hi,

Anything but a carbon steel blade with nice aged and patinated steel, and natural scales is illegal in such a place, isn't it? And if it isn't, it should be!

A Jack would be a fine choice. But I'd most likely have my Case CV Canoe and my little Colonial Peanut that I just finished re-scaling.

NB,

you set up a very nice camping and fishing trip with all the essentials, coffee, beer, scotch and some tasty trout. ;)

i am sure we are all going to have a good time on this trip. i believe am going to choose an older large stockman for this fishing trip. i think i would be well prepared with this choice. a 1970 case 64047p in red bone. its 3 7/8 inches when closed. its got 4 high carbon blades that would be well suited for this type of fishing, hiking, camping trip. a good master clip blade, spay blade, sheepsfoot blade and punch tool. thanx for a lovely trip into your world too. :)

I'd take my old Hen and Rooster stockman I bought in Germany when I was a young man, and Bertram was really Bertram.

It was such a beautifull knife with shiney blades and stark white and brown stag scales. It's grown old along with it's owner, and the grey blades take a scary edge. The stag has turned a mellow golden and brown hue. I used to "save it" for special outings, but now I've been carrying it alot figuring why not. It's a link with the past and another time, and also a link with my own finite existance. We've both got old, but still in the game for now. It would be a good knife to slice up some sausage, and drink some good hooch, in equaly good company.

A good thing with this sort of trip, resting together is that you get an opportynity to look at your friends knifes, I realy would like to actually tuch an old bertram or case.

The best knifes and things should not be put aside, but used regularly. Its only we ourselves that we can garantee enjoy them and its by use the get to be the familytreasures to keep for our generations to come.

I'll be packing my KH -- Trapper pattern in 52100 and my Dan Burke -- Queen Cattle pattern with BG-42.. These two folders will be quite helpful no doubt with all the cutting chores that may likely arise on our fishing trip..
