You guys sure know how to make a guy poor.

Just this month or two, I've bought an ESEE Arrowhead, Izula with scales, a 4CP Sheath System, 5P Sheath System, and a Junglas with sheath.

I had a trivial problem with the 4CP but was immediately replaced right away by their amazing CS.

I love all of them, but I'm confused on why the blade of the ESEE 5 is so thick..

It literally feels like I'm holding a short Junglas, and I don't see why it needs to be so. It would be fine prying and batoning even if the blade was thinner. Is there some secret use I'm missing out on, that requires the blade to be so thick?

Everything else was awesome.

ESEE really is one-of-a-kind. :o

Seriously?
Its made for when the SHTF, or you have to baton and slash your way out of burning aircraft or the mistresses house when the husband comes home:eek:!

...

So it's specifically made for when the Mistresses's husband fights me in a UH-60, crash lands, and I must cut myself out.

I see...

The 5 is designed as a SERE (survive, escape, resist, and evade) tool and designed with the input of the SERE instructors at the Air Force SERE School. It was designed to chop you out of a helo, vehicle, whatever, give you a tool that would allow yourself to survive in the most extreme elements and environments. The last thing you'd want in that situation is your blade snapping, that's why that thickness is there. They're releasing the Laser Strike that's 3/8" thick and 5" long this year for a more friendly outdoors blade.

Yeah it's one beast of a knife, that's for sure. I'd probably prefer the 6, myself, for that very reason.

You weren't aware if it's features prior to buying it? As all ESEE knives it was designed for a specific purpose. Glad you like it.

The 5 is gonna be a MUST HAVE for me. I like to have all my bases covered!! Everybody should have at least one knife that could help them cut there way out of Hell.....Or survive a Nuclear Bomb ;-)

I love the sturdiness that the 1/4" has. It feels like a crazy tough, stout, tank of a knife.

It isn't as long as the 6, but the extra girth is what really matters.

when you hold the 5 in your hand the real question is "why not make the blade so thick"? the thing feels awesome and well balanced.

Have a 5 with serrations for about 1 1/2 years now. It has been a beast at chopping down small trees like poplar, and has been real handy to have splitting/batoning many types of wood at the campfire. It made a hatchet obsolete for my use and kept me from having to carry a longer blade in the woods. The 1/4" thickness provides the weight that is a must for what the 5 is capable of doing.

Used the 5 for an hour or two today, and I'm kind of growing into the thickness of the blade.

I like it. :D

Yeah, the more you use it, the more you appreciate it and what it is capable of. The 5, as all other ESEE knives, is nothin I keep around to decorate my shelves or as a drawer queen.

i think the 5 is my favorite knife right now. the thickness of it is the best part. it is a beast! capable of chopping anything.
