Ok As a part of my groomsmen gifts I want to get them all The Flash II.
But I have a slight problem as I have never seen one or handled one so I have a question for anybody who has one.
Or maybe you can answer this Chris..
On the SOG web site on the Flash II info they show differant knives, some of the pictures the knife looks to appear as Flash I's so I am confused to what this knife actually looks like. Is it contoured the same, Because most of the other pictures on the slider shows a very bulky squared off knife.
And any picture I look up on the internet it also shows the Flash I.
So I guess my question is this, does the Flash II look exactly like the smaller one or is it bulky and square in design as to compensate for the larger frame?

This is time sensitive as the Wedding date is 3/31
If the knife looks anything like the Flash I this will be the knife they all get.

Anybody who has a picture of one it would be greatly appreciated if they posted it.

Thanks Guys, Phil

i use a flash 2 at work , its a nice knife . i`ve got the graphite flash 2 , in clip point with combo edge . it holds a good edge , is a good looker , and performs well . the serrations eat through strapping tape . thick cardboard etc . makes work that little bit more fun . its a fairly tough knife , mine fell outta my pocket at work today , fell 3 metres onto a wood surface , and it was still fine. the ergos are good , its only a bit square at the end , but this enhances grip . its a good middle of the road knife. a colleague at work liked mine so much he gave me the money and i went and got one for him.

I've had one for years, its a great knife and I am sure will be a hit with whoever you give one to. It has sort of a useless safety but still a great knife.

The Flash I and II are the same knife just different sizes. If I remember correctly the Flash II is 40% larger than the Flash I.

So if you like the Flash I you will like the Flash II 40% more.

I hope this helps.

Chris

Here are the SOG Flash 1 and Flash 2 in a side by side comparison.

Here is another page from A.G. Russell's with serrated and non serrated Flash 1 and Flash 2s all together. Then there's the super trippy SOG Flash 1 and 2 in Rainbow Titanium. That should definitely settle what the two knives look like.

Why not go for the Gentleman SOG? It's in the same price range and much classier. ;)

Thanks for the side by side Vaako...
And um... these guys arent that classy. Just kidding. Most will abuse them very much and they all have a slight fasination with the easy opening feature.. Thanks phil

Good stuff Chris. haha. There were just a few pics on the web site that confused me. maybe they were pilot models or previous? who knows
Thanks, Phil

Thanks guy, so one more question are there advantages to the aluminum handled ones, they are the ones I am aming twords.
And then I saw the tanto serrated. very nice. I think I will mix and match them.

If it was not a money issue I would get them all Tomcat 3.0s but I already got the m other gifts also.( Shillaleghs)

Aluminum handles wear better and last longer than zytel (and zytel lasts longer than kraton, btw).

Regular use and wear eventually brings up highlights on an aluminum handle and over time the knife will have the look of a military issue handgun or rifle that's seen action. It's a nice look.

The aluminum handled SOG Flash starts out looking great and will end up with a "been there, done that" look in the future.

Your groomsmen will love 'em.

SirGalant, one last question , although not a really important one.
In your opinion is the Flash a bit to wide? I am just curious ( I wish a shop sold them around here so I can hands on, but I guess I just have to man up.)

In pictures it seems a bit wide. I know it is a fairly wide. Oh wait, I know is it wider than the tomcat?

I just bought one at Lowe's,I agree the safety is a joke (one needs monkey hands to work it) plus the "low-ride" pocket clip is a friggin' pain in the ass,I just about literally have to tear it out of my pocket.

The clip is off and I'm going to buy a belt pouch for it,so I can carry it safety off and feel confident I won't need scissors to get it out.

Otherwise great knife.

Do you pull the knife out by putting your index finger on clip ?

Notice the knurls on each side of butt end of knife, try gripping here with thumb and index finger........otherwise, you are just putting more pressure on clip which just tightens up on the pocket.

I use this method and my knife comes out very smoothly.

Robbie Roberson ;)

I usually just pull it out by putting the tip of my index finger under the round end of the clip, comes out easily and flips right into your hand for opening.
