Another folder bites the dust

Screwed up another folder. My #2 conbo bit went a little far into the frame material and I can't tap the stuff now. Also messed the blade up. What a jerk. I MIGHT be able to grind up a new blade and start over, and just drill another hole for the space, more carefully, so I can tap this one. It'll look like a dog rocket, but it's a prototype and it might be worth continuing with, then beating the crap out of, and then starting another project after I torture this one. Between my O1 frustrations and this framelock I'm about two seconds from calling it quits right now! :grumpy:

Hang in there Chiro, I am in the process of making my first framelock and I share in your frustions. Try to salvage as much as you can and try again to complete one knife. You will feel great when it is completed.

Keep at it. I went through 9 design iterations before I got that auto to work and look right. Most of those iterations involved building a prototype. I generate so much scrap it isn't even funny.

Got interested in making knives two + years ago. I started my first knife like a year or year and a half ago. Haven't finished it yet. But I'm still here. Once I started I said to myself, ok, this is what I want to do. Just didn't have the supplies/tools to do it by myself. So I've spent all this time building up what I need, now I'm in the home stretch building my metal working shop to get started. Point is, nothing worth doing is ever easy, and a few minor setbacks are part of the game. In short, deal with it, and keep going...

Started another one over the weekend and I screwed up again! I didn't follow my cheat sheet and I reamed my stop pin holes to 3/16" on both sides. One side should've been 3/16", one side should've been 0.1865 for a press fit. That one, at least, I can recover from, if I slap scales over the frame. Designed another folder, too. I can tell that I'll be ordering more taps, more screws, more reamers, more titanium and a bunch more bullshit that I don't need today! My problem is that I haven't devoted myself to folders only yet. I go in my shop, grind a knife, finish another one, make a sheath, work on a folder, cut a few blanks... I need to get all my orders filled and just take a break. For being part time I sure am spending a lot of time chained to my shop! :D

you are learning how to fix mistakes. hahaha it only gets better. soon grasshopper you will do it in one day. :D

Kim, is that a polite way of saying, "Quit whining and learn to deal with the same problems as the rest of us."?????? :D
