I was playing with list from the thought of "what knife would you take if you did not know where you were going" and Discovery Argentina- where they had to select from a pile of gear- some ended up way overloaded to traverse the terrain they faced. So I though about my own "junk pile" and the things I felt like were useful enough no matter where I ended up(OK excluding the arctic)

Add to the 3rd load----
head off small solar sidewalk light (if room)

They are very lightweight yet I just realized how handy they are for a few hours of free light after the sun sets.

Good list! It is a fun game to think on. I was thinking the same thing while watching the amazing race. Those are big packs for hotel to hotel travel!

With your rope, I'd add a couple rappel rings, some tube webbing and a carabiner or two. Gives you lots of flexibility if you were to actually need to rap with it. Also, in my case, I don't have a fishing spear, so I'd take a couple of AH-1s and make due.

I'd also pack as many different other drugs that I could get away with, and had training for. As well as a mirror, magnifier and tweezers.
Finally, I'd need a roll of gorilla tape, and a towel. Always need a towel, especially if there is any chance of inter-planetary hitchhiking.

GG,
We all have kits that are locale specific. I am playing with one that would be flexible enough to be good most anywhere. This does not change my bug out bag just broadens the scope a little. Some webbing and locking biners would be good.

I would like to assemble all and se how they fit in a 3day bag and what weight may be- the reason between breaking the items down into groups. Some thing I do not have though- hammock and siltarp- I am a ground sleeper here and use GI Ponchos but in some areas ground sleeping is a no go and ponchos are heavier than siltarp. It is easy to be stoicked well but overloaded to the point of breaking down- I am guilty of that. The hank of muslin would server, washcloth/towel functions as well as improvised shade, sedmient strainer, bag for berry/small food items- just and unglorified shemagh.

The test would be to gather all this and then carry it on one of our day hikes.

One thing I cannot beleive I ommitted----compass.
