Hey gents, I had to share this one with you guys! For those of you new to SRKW, this is a satin Battle Rat or Battle Rat LE. Same size and dims as a CG Battle Rat, but she is full flat ground with a zero edge convex. I have been waiting to use her for a week or two now, and the weather is finally nice enough to allow me to carve out last years fishing trails. The pictures are nothing spectacular, but I wanted to give anyone who hasn't handled a larger Rat an idea of how hard SR-101 bites! If you look at the third picture, she is over 1'' in to an unfortunate tree blocking my trail. THIS is why we need another big chopper!! Ok, more to come with a comprehensive review of a classic after another week in the coal mine :barf:

Stop showing off Brendan :) How does the battle rat compare to the DF?

LOL :p;)

Thanks for the comments guys! The satin Battle Rat is without a doubt a lot lighter than a Dog Father. There is noticeably less steel on the SBR compared to the combat grade Battle Rat, due to the full flat grind as supposed to the saber grind on the CG. Personally, I would consider the satin BR more of a trail clearer or chopper for the lighter vegetation. The lighter weight allows for very quick & accurate chops! If I needed to perform some heavy chopping, I would probably go with a dedicated chopper like the Dog Father, Battle Mistress, ect.

Forgot to mention, a big thank you to Gravelface for parting with this beauty

nice! I got a Battle Rat 2 weeks ago. its wicked! mine is through hardened and has the tan Res-c and black blade.

Most of us will NEVER use a knife hard enough for differential heat treat to pay off! Use her well brother.

I never used to think that full flat grind was good for choppers, I thought they needed to be really heavy with think grinds. After using my Basic 11 and M9 LE I recognize how much of a joy big choppers with a full flat grind can be to use. They are fast in hand and typically very well balanced. Combine it with res-c and you're golden. Have fun with that chopper bro!

Sweet BR-LE Brendan congrats on your score, man she really does bite nicely and with that res-c handle its probably not too bad in the vibration dept.

I feel that very few knives are worth having two of, mostly because a knife that is well made should last a lifetime. I, however, already have an SBR and had to stop myself from picking up Jason's just to have it when it was available. IMHO, it's the best knife to ever come out of the Swamp.

Nice one Brendan, I have not seen one of those in a long time let alone being used
Good luck fishing this year

Did all the LE come with tan handle or were some in black as well?

I'm not sure that it has ever been formerly called an "LE". It is a Satin Battle Rat, or "SBR". It has a different grind than the regular BRs as well as (IIRC) a different heat treat. I have never seen one with black handles. Of course, the regular BRs had both tan and black handles, and in one instance, I saw a fellow try to sell a stripped, satinized regular BR as an SBR. However, the two are actually very different.

Another sweet one! I like that you get these beauties out there and get them dirty!

I love my BR....

The SBR and the BR have the same heat treatment... differential. The exception is the tan handle with black blade Battle Rat that was through hardened.

I have never seen a black handle on a factory SBR, don't think there is such a thing.

SBR is full flat with a wicked convex edge. BR is sabre grind with a V-Grind.
