Another happy ESEE customer through the RC-3...

I've been here on the ESEE forum quite regularly, but never had anything to add for I didn't own any blades from ESEE...until today. I just got myself a used, but almost brandnew RC-3P DT. I always thought about buying a RC blade, but there always something keeping me from buying one. One time I had no money, the other time I spent the money on a different knife cause it was a great deal and so on, you get the idea. On the other hand RC blades are often a little bit pricey over here in Europe, so time went on, I looked for a RC every once and a while but I didn't commit myself to buying one.

That all changed last Sunday.

A forumite from another forum in Germany offered the RC-3 for a decent prize and even lowered it several times. I was tempted to buy the knife more and more and by the end of last week I asked him if the knife was still available, he said yes and so I bought it. Today the knife was delivered to my door and I was soo excited to get it that I almost waited the whole day behind my front door for the package to arrive. When I held it in my hands it was much better than I'd had expected...

To the knife itself:
I once handled a Ontario Rat 3 about two years ago and I didn't really like, because of the handle. Even though my hands aren't that big, it was way too short, so I skipped the idea of buying one right away. But much time has passed since that day, and today I can only say that the handle of the RC-3 is close to perfect for me. The grip through the micarta scales is excellent, I just love to hold this knife in my hand. The ergonomics are just outstanding, you can hold the knife in so many ways, it's just amazing.
I just can't wait to use this blade in every scenario imaginable and I know it won't let me down.

So I know that this a just another thread full of praise for the quality of the ESEE blades, so please forgive me if I bored you, I only wanted to share some of the joy and excitement that this little fella brought to me. :D And so, at least something for the eye to watch...

So have a nice day and enjoy the weekend!

Those pics of the RC-3 in hand are excellent. I bet people will find those pretty useful when they are shopping for an RC-3.

Congrats on the new RC-3.

Oh, there's a big surprise: "Another happy ESEE customer...." :)

Congrats on the new blade. I'm jealous of the desert tan sheath though. My desert tan RC-4 came with a black sheath, I'm going to have to find a sheath maker here to make me a DT version.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I already sharpened the blade, just a few passes on the Sharpmaker and it's back to shavin' sharp.

Make sure you post those pics in the photo thread sticky.
Thanks for reminding, will be the next thing I do.

Congrats.

Now you need an Izula, ESEE-4, ESEE-5, ESEE-6, Junglas, etc...........
I'm afraid that you're absolutely right...;) Maybe a little bit larger, so next time it should be a ESEE-6 or the Junglas...:D

My brother owns this knife. One time I was using it and my index slipped onto the blade. I got a pretty nasty cut from it. But I still love it!

I have the Junglass and the RC-6. I got the Junglas first, and thought that the 6 would feel small when I got it.

It is smaller than the Junglas, but man, the 6 is a beast in it's own right

A short update: I've used the RC-3 the last few days mainly in the kitchen (steak had no chance^^) and tried to sharpen it as good as I could yesterday. The result? I needed to change the angle in the front portion of the blade (approx. 1 1/2") cause it was bigger than 20 degrees. I'm going to change this in the next few days, maybe even today. I'm a little disappointed though cause the cutting edge itself looked quite promising, but it's no big deal. A lot of my factory knives have a different sharpening angle when it comes to the tip of the blade, but usually just on one side, not both ones like in this case.

I still do like the RC/ESEE-3, it has a great handles, great ergonomics and a wonderful flatground blade made out of a great steel and I guess those minor flaws just can't be avoided, especially not for the price of the '3'. So for now goodbye, I'm off, I have to grind a blade...:D

I really enjoyed your write up, I really like my 3 although I carry my Izula more.

I finally reprofiled the edge in front part with a DMT benchstone (coarse). It worked pretty well, but maybe extracoarse might have been better...but enough of that. I sharpened the 3 on the Sharpmaker and the sharpness is on the level a true carbon steel is made for: scary sharp! I will put on my strop and see what happens...next stop hairwhittling sharp. I'm going on a trip next week ,which will include some hiking and the RC-3 will definitely be in my pocket. I really need to use this knife, it'd be waste to leave it in the drawer.

I have the RC-3 and RC-6, I have to say that after carrying emersons, Burgers (great knives) etc, the RC-3 is with me all the time. Generally my work requires semi formal dress and sometimes formal, the RC-3 with standard sheath fits snugly in my pocket. I find it more confortable than a pocket clip. Absolutely LOVE IT!

Can't wait to take on our annual african fishing trip, this time to Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe.

Cool man ! That's exactly the one I found sitting on my doorstep tonight !
Awesome blade. I love DT Esee's.
