Well, I just got this from Matt, and gotta say I am very pleased.

I have always liked the old style knives and such, and the hammer forged theme carries through this little guy. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but will post some pics when I get to it. Nice convex edge, tiger maple handle, 3/8" thick blade (I think). Not afraid to baton this little beauty.

Hope someone might be interested.

Another stunner from ML Knives! He always seems to find the prettiest material for handle scales. Does the sheath have belt loops on the back?

that's a beauty allright... i love Matt's work... i have another from him, enroute next week...:D

That looks real good. He has some fine looking blades. Thanks for sharing

hello Gents.

I think that is a cool looking chopper. Sometimes I see those vintage tools made in such a way and I wonder if they were not just things made to sell to somebody. Please do not be offended I did not mean it bad. I like axes but never had a tang'd model.

would I be off base or out of budget if I insisted on a tapered tang? to trade the weight so to speak? :o

Briar,

No problem at all!! It is just a small hatchet, and I like the heft. But it may not be everyones thing. On the sheath, no belt loop.

Well, here's my vintage full-tang BSA hatchet. It's my fire building workhorse. I have no fear of the handle breaking.

That is sweet, that grind looks really good, and the handle is stunning.

Looks short enough to be easily contrllable at cutting and whittling, how does it do at chopping?

I wish I 'd made my reply a bit more positive sounding. I should have been more clear when I refered to vintage ones, I meant those thin "knife set" type hunter's tools. Yours is obviously made by someone who cares. thanks for being cool.
