Another "help me I'm new to Emerson" post

I wanted to start by saying I think I found my way here for all the right reasons. It started by reading some new posts, and saw a thread about all the Emerson "haters" and the amusement they bring. In this thread was a link to the Emerson catalog, specifically referencing a write up by the man himself. That piece led me to searching for more info, and hours of watching interviews, meet your maker videos, etc.

Now that I rambled, the ultimate conclusion to this is that I feel after overlooking Emerson knives for so long, I need to get one now. I'm leaning towards the Horseman or Mini Roadhouse. Anyone have pictures of these two side by side? Also, any thought to push me one direction or another? Thanks for the help.

I don't have a Horseman, but here are some pictures of a Mini RH. I like the RH pattern, I carry it or a 7 daily.

Thanks for the pics! I actually just started shopping around and the 7 is looking like another option. How do you like them compared to each other?

Well, there are obvious differences. The 7 has a straight handle and straight tanto blade and the RH has a more fitted handle and upswept tanto blade. Zthe significant difference is production Roadhouses are V ground, and most production 7s are chisel ground, minus the A blade or V ground tanto if you can find one. So big difference in how they cut/handle. So, I carry a standard RH or Super7. I am used to how the chisel cuts so it doesn't bother me, but some people do not care for it. I like them both, so can't strongly recommend one over the other.

Size wise, you can find both in several sizes - RH you should be able to find the mini and standard, and 7 you can find in mini, standard, and super. The mini 7 is a good bit smaller than the mini RH, the mini RH is about the same size as the standard 7, and super 7 is the same size as the standard RH. So overall the RH is just a bigger pattern.

Anyway, hope that helps.

I had a horseman for many years as my EDC and it took a real beating. It was a very good knife and deserves it's reputation, but it was not the best fit for my hand so when I replaced it I got a CQC7 and I've never looked back, and I have a few now.

The Commander is also a good one. The way it fits in the hand is second to none.

Roadhouse is nice too. I had a regular size one and sold it. Wish I didn't. I want to get another.

Best thing to do is hold a few different models in your hand to see what fits.

While you're at it take a look at the SOCFK-B, if you can find one. It's an amazing knife. I have two of them. Not sure why it's not in regular production. It's got a 7 blade with a Specwar handle.

I would EDC one of mine but as they're hard to find I just baby them.

Sounds like I need to get my hands on a few different ones . Thanks for the input guys!

That's actually the best advice right there. I did not know which I liked better/best until I held a few. I got lucky with the RH being my first Emerson and I loved the handle.
