I got to go on another nice hike today in RMNP past Alberta Falls to Mills Lake with the Gunny. Even though I'm an old soldier, I seem to like this "marine" knife
. The RC-4 came along too as usual, attached to my pack, so I thought I'd better include it in the pics.
It was probably 40 in the valley, 30 at the trailhead and 15 at the lake (elev. 9940 ft.). It was a little cold and windy at the top, but overall it was another perfect late fall CO day.
Much of the hike was shaded by the ridges and its a higher elevation, so this trail is much more heavily snow covered (than yesterdays pics). There are some really nice views of the surrounding peaks and down into the valley of Estes Park.
As you'll see from the pictures both Alberta Falls and Mills Lake are frozen. The creek is still flowing strongly, but its covered by a crust of ice almost the entire way.
This time I'll post the knife pics first, so as not to be castigated by the quick responders
, then other pics will follow.
