Here's another knife history for BCCI website, forum copy, my photos, setup and editing by MWallace.

Again let me say, lots of models need a history, I only do 300s the rest of you have to do the rest.....300Bucks

Well done. Have you sent your information to Jack Foresman, BCCI Web Adm. so he can include the information on the site model history. Very "meaningful" photos.

HR,
Jack already has it up and working, ready for more......you guys get Mikes reduced by requirements photo version to hold down total KB size to meet file size limits of forum. Website has higher KB photos. 300Bucks

300Bucks Great write up thanks for sharing.
Can anyone explain the use of the hook to clean birds? I have hunted birds for 30 some years and hunters I have met knew it was a bird knife but no one knew what to do with the hook. Thanks

Stockdog,
I once had a great BrittanySpaniel who was one of those 'once in a lifetime dogs' a few guys stumble on to. I was into reading all things bird shooting and living the part , and never once actually read where the bird hook was being used. But it was a cutlery carry over from across the Atlantic so I was figuring it was a genteel way of pulling out 'guts' when cleaning birds brought to bag. I have tried it a couple of times but being more 'Survivorman' than 'Genteel' I just went back to my finger. The most effective way I used it, was to reach in the cut opening of the belly, stick in the gut hook, give a couple of twists and pull something out. I could see a nattily dressed(tie?) New England woodcock hunter using one, but not so much the brown coated and denim panted midwest pheasant and Bobwhite hunter.....I did wear an LLBean hunting coat so maybe I was an apprentice 'genteel' bird shooter......Long story short, dog got old, clean farming increased, birds got thin and I just knew I could never replace him. Sold 20 gauge, burned coat, hat and whistle when I cremated dogs remains. Kept bird knife.

300Bucks thanks for the great story. That is the best explanation of the hook I have ever read and I can believe it. We were raised to gut our birds by hand and only needed the Buck knife blade to cut off feet, outer wings and neck the rest just peeled off, feed fresh liver and hart to the dog and get back in the timber. So I guess it is how you are brought up some hunt to hunt and others hunt for the hunt.

Fantastic review of the 321...I still chuckle when I think about how many times I had to explain the use of the hook.

I think I will lock this, most super moderators don't support bringing back up a really old thread, they recommend just creating a link in the current thread it would reference. We can discuss "gut hooks" in current thread if someone wants to. 300
