I've been inspired by Leatherman's tutorial on the rat forum to try my hand at leatherwork... I'm definitely not going to quit my day job! AND I have an even greater appreciation for the true craftsmen that make beautiful leather sheaths

But all in all, it really is a bit satisfying to know it's YOUR work, even if it's not quite as pretty and "perfect" as the real deal. I tried a dangler for the SJTACLE. (Pics below.) Hopefully the lessons I learned on this one will make the next one a little better...

Wow, that is nice. Excellent job. I think I'm going to buy some leather and try to make one myself.

Xaman, that looks awesome to me! I can only hope my first turns out so well.

Very nice!

Where did you get your supplies?? Been wanting to try one myself.

Ken

Thanks for the compliments guys ( I think the pic makes it look a little better than it is ;) )

I got the Leather at a gun show recently, I think next time I'll go with something a little heavier though. The snaps, thread and needles I got from Tandy online. I need to ask Dwayne what that piece is that makes the retention strap swivel. It would be better than a fixed strap (although I put it high enough to get back to it if it needs replacing.

XAMAN,

Looks very nice for your first one. Getting good leather really does help. Do you have an edger yet? If not get the number 2 from Tandy, it really helps even out the edges. You really tackled a pretty difficult sheath for your first one you should be proud. Oh and BTW it does get easier. Nice job.

Fabulous job Xaman! I love danglers for larger blades.

I don't see anything that needs improving. Seriously.

HEy bro --- yeah, I never even heard of an "edger." But that sounds useful -- is it a cutter or does it burn the edge???

Looks great Xaman!

I'm gonna have to check out that tutorial.

Looks UNSAFE!!!

Better send it to me---I'll test it for you.:)

I'll return it in a year or so...

Really--good work.

If you held a gun to my head-I could not make one that nice.

It is a tool that you use to round off the edges. I really makes a big difference in how even and smooth they come out. Look at the Tandy web site for edgers. It cuts the edge it doesnt burn. It is almost foolproof.

Awesome

I know I need a belt sander for the stacked leather, but wasn't at all sure what to do with the single edges. Thanks for the tip!

Ya, me too. Even if I screw it up, it will still be an interesting challenge. And then I can really appreciate what the pros around here are doing.

Daaaaang! Thats nice bro! Very solid start in leather crafting! :D
