A buddy of mine showed me a knife the other day that was given to him by his great grandfather and I was wondering if I could get a time of production and maybe who this knife was made for. Maybe a company or if it was for regular retail. Anyway the knife is a 154OT pattern, all that is on the tang is Schrade USA, and instead of an old timer handle shield it says Hunting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Donavon

Made post 73 chances are a contract. someone will probably have the exact dates end explicit info. Can you imagine how old i am getting this was given to someone by his great grandfather. I consider most of the Schrade ( post 73 ) stuff as mainly users. LT

The 154 pattern was used by Peterson Publishing in the late 70's or very early 80's, along with the 152 pattern, for promotion of subscriptions. I have not been able to pin down the date any closer than that just yet.

Shields on the black sawcut delrin handles were stamped with the two magazine names, "Guns & Ammo", and "Hunting". Both patterns have been seen with each stamping. They used the production 1095HC blade blanks and "SCHRADE" over U.S.A. tangstamps. I have a Guns & Ammo 152 Sharpfinger and a HUNTING 154 Drop Point Hunter. The black delrin is attractive to me. I am working on a customized Sharpfinger with a Gabon Ebony handle.

You guys are nothing but amazing. I'm waiting for Bernard Levine to step in here and ask a question about a Schrade knife. Codger, I too like the look of the black Delrin handles. So far, I have missed out on every one that I have ever bid on.

Keep bidding. Keep a search going in "favorites" and it will e-mail you when one comes up. I have passed on quite a few that went beyond the value I personally placed on them for their condition. But I have gotten the two at reasonable prices. I still want one of each, opposite shields from what I have. But they must have made several thousand of each, so they are uncommon being only made one year, but not rare, IMHO. Still interesting though.

There is really nothing mystical or amazing about learning the Schrade Old Timer and Uncle Henry patterns and varients. And most of this stuff has been posted here in the forum at one time or another. These were discussed not long ago.

I also think the black derlin looks great. I have a 12OT in black derlin. I wish I could find some other patterns in black.
I also have a 55OT, 53OT and a Skoal knife with green derlin and brass bolsters. The green and brass look great together. I would like to see more of that combination. Does anyone know of any other patterns that were made with the green and brass combination? LT, Codger, anyone?

Orvet, I see in my BRLevine book several Skoal greens listed: SK154, SK36, SK89.

In the Black, Copenhagen shields, I read: 165OT, 5OT, 33OT, 877UH, LB7.

Other Private issues that list the color black: 'Hardware Wholesale 50th anniversay' 5OT. 'Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation' 5OT.

Well, the most recent and obvious edition to me is the SFO X-Timer, 24OTX. Black delrin and brass it is, with the addition of the blued blades. I have seen Craftsman Schrades with black handles and brass, and they did release some unscrimmed leftover 501SC's (154 pattern) with black handles instead of the cream. I have one of those and it has a blank shield. And I saw a pair from the sample room with white scrim on them, no shield. A couple of years ago, I saw a 15OT with black handles that the seller described as being "like a bowling ball", but I don't remember any other features.

In the Skoal/Copenhagen knives, I have seen several patterns not listed there Phil. The SK194 and C194, C72, C12 among them. Did BRL identify the promotion years?

I would be remiss not to mention the beautiful wood series they did for Skoal/Copenhagen Racing and Pro Rodeo. Those were nice!

Thanks Textoothpk and codger,
I guess there are more of them than I realized once you start to list them. A 24OTX is near the top of my MUST HAVE list. But alas.........it is that time of the month again.....waiting for the eagle to fly! :o

Yer welcome orvet. Good luck finding these great looking knives.

Mike, the dates BRL gives (courtesy of Debbie Chase, I might add) were 1994. Bear in mind I am reading from the 4th edition, and there were knives issued after that was published.

Peterson Publishing knives... Some time ago I emailed them asking for a date of issue on those knives. No reply. Did it again. No reply. I have one of the Guns and Ammo black handled Sharpfingers, nice looking knife.

Oh, don't apologize for asking a question here about Schrade knives. Sometimes the info is buried deep in the remaining archives, and sometimes it has been deleted during routine site maintenance. I am very thankful that we have been allocated space here at all, much less the large amount of bandwidth we occupy. The site owner and managers have been very generous to us. But, the best archive is as it has always been, in the hearts and minds of the collectors and users of Imperial Schrade knives. And in their hunting pouches and chests, closets, desks, on their walls, and in their sheds, attics, basements and "mancaves". Research and documentation of Schrade history and the knives and tools produced is a neverending chore, and ned information is uncovered almost daily. A lot of it comes from questions posed here like yours!

Thanks for asking questions!

I went back to the store where I bought my Skoal knife and they found a couple more. They were in a Schrade box (tan & blue) that said "36OT." Is that the correct number for the knife? It doesn't say 36OT on the blade, just: SCHRADE SKOAL USA.

Thanks,
Dale

P.S. I finally got a XT7B off fleabay. Am anxiously awaiting the Mailman (err..Mailwoman on our route). :o
