What do you think of something like this that could be worn around the neck or dropped in an Altoids tin kit if you prefer.
I figured it could be used almost like a wood chisel.

That's a nice idea Pit. It would be small and light enough to always have with you and it looks useful for all kinds of stuff. I like it

I really like this idea.

I always wondered if it would be possible to make something like this that could be held so it can make its own handle and turn into a mini hawk for chopping.

I have never found anything that fits in a tin and can be attached to a stick to give you a little more chopping power to help make a shelter. If you look at an Altoids Tin, that size hawk would be much better in helping you cut a little large wood to build with.

pit, you need to get some graph paper that's 1/8" or 1/10" and perhaps a french curve and mechanical pencils.

or skip the graph paper completely and get a drafting machine, or just a T square and some triangles and a drafting table, or just find a copy of Adobe Illustrator and do it all in the computer.

nice work and always interesting designs... but if you can improve your tools a little bit your drawings will look a little more finished.

just constructive criticism because i like your work, not intended to tear it down or imply there's anything wrong with it, simply pointing out ways to improve it.

for this widget, i'd suggest radiusing the top corners and adding a large 5/8" or so hole in the middle for a thumb gripper and to reduce the overall weight. if you make this thing from 1/4" stock it'd be heavy. perhaps ovalize the big hole a bit (to keep Spyderco from having kittens) and move the lanyard holes a bit closer to the centerline and closer to the top.

if you want it to be "trendy" it needs a bottle opener notch. for the people who can't open a bottle without an opener.

I do sometimes wish I had a good drawing program buddy but I sketch many of my designs quickly and at odd times. So far the makers have managed to reproduce them exactly as I had in mind so I don't worry too much !:D

i'm just used to my drawings being what the router, waterjet or laser cuts, or what the (offset, screen, inkjet or airbrush) press prints and not having someone creative interpreting the drawing.
