Here's another I have in the works, it's 01 tool steel. It will measure 15'' o.a. once the spacers and pommel are on , and the blade is 9 7/8'' tip to guard.

The guard is forged 1018, and the handle is figured walnut. It will have a 1018 spacer with some type of detail to it, and the pommel will be of the same material.

I was going to go with all stainless hardware but really liked this guard, and I had forged it a while back, so it's about time I finally used it.

So far, the handle is only sanded to 180grit, so the grain isn't exactly jumping out at you ,here's some progress photo's

a little Ray Richard influence?

Raymond Richard influence??? Not sure, maybe a little, I do admit I am a fan of his work, and now looking at this piece in a different light, I guess unintentionally yeah it is a bit.

Actually though, I had been forging blades a few weeks ago and forged this guard out, but never used it. I wanted to use it on a forged blade, but run out of gas,, so i just decided to put it on a stock removal blade. I kind of been building this whole knife around the guard. And it needed a big blade as the guard's a bit big, so I thought this style fit it well.

thanks and I hope to be finishing it up within the next week.

well as if it wasn't Mr. richard looking enough as is, I decided that I wasnt happy with the stock removal blade, so I went ahead and forged a new blade for it.

the new dimensions are 17'' o.a., and a 11 1/2'' blade.

oh yeah the blade is a billet I welded up of chainsaw blades.

p.s. Mr. richards sorry for the shame im bringing to your name, not trying to copy your work, just how it ended up.;)

How close to being finished is this knife?

well not as close as it was, since i changed the blade, like i said i wasn't happy with the 01 stock removal one, so i forged this out, it's only rough ground, and i have to do a final fit on the guard and pommel and finish sand the wood., then HT, and clean up for final assembly.....i'd say maybe 50% done.

thanks for look'en

also ill add that if all goes well this maybe a set as I have hawk head thats's made from the same material, and i think im gonna pair up with this knife.
