I've had my Small, Insingo, Micarta for several months now and like to wash the Micarta every month or so. Should I be concerned about the inlays coming loose? .......Or should I not be so anal?
Would compressed air "dry out" the cavity sufficiently?

I wouldn't do the water with wood, bone, horn, but the Micarta is pretty stable and it looks better with it's fibers showing. I can't tell you how much better the Micarta feels over the plain slabs.

:DWell, this is not your father's double stick tape.

Thanks!

I've washed my Micarta with hot water and soap, windex, hand cleaner, got it covered in oil many times, and no sign of these inlays developing any problems. In the worst case if your inlay ever fell out, CRK would re-attach it free of charge, but I've never heard of that happening with Micarta.

I've used an old toothbrush, dish soap, and warm water with no problems at all. That 3M tape is some amazing stuff. Also, per the CRK video, the tape's bond will actually get stronger with time.

It's good to keep in mind that a lot of the parts on a modern airliner are put together with two-sided high-bonding tape. Not sure what that's saying, but if modern two-sided tape is not a robust solution, you might have more to worry about than your CRK inlays falling out when you are having your complimentary beverage at 30,000 FT!

Rest easy. That VHB tape is essentially permanent. There is a great YouTube video from 3M (the maker) demonstrating the product...I'll see if I can find the link. As you said, this is not your father's double-stick tape, even if he was an engineer on the Apollo project. ;)
