So I just got a Ti Militarys' in a trade today. The guy I traded with seems like a very nice and honest person so if this is a fake, I'm sure he had no idea. Just want to get that out of the way so nobody thinks I'm trying to say anything bad about him.

As you can see, I have 4 other Militarys' to compare to.

If this is a fake, it's a damn good one. The action is perfect. Very smooth opening and closing. Good early lockup. Blade is centered. BUT……

The writing is much darker than any other ones I have. I remember seeing a video pointing out that some fakes have darker lettering.

Then the steel lock bar insert has a very obvious defect. This is my first Ti military so I don't have anything to compare it to. Not sure if it's normal or not.

Lastly, the grind. Near the base of the grind, there is a weird defect. It's like they ground into the part that's supposed to be unsharpened. I have roughly 30 spyderco knives and have never seen something like this. You can see it from the side of the blade……...

and by looking down at the edge.

Just remembered that the grind at the tip is WAY off but I didn't really want to include that because I know it's not that unusual.

What do you experts think? Am I making something out of nothing? Is it a fake? Bad quality control on the part of Spyderco? If it's not a fake, the little imperfections don't bug me. The knife is great and I LOVE my Militarys'. Just want to make sure. Thanks in advance.

On a side not, is it Militaries or Militarys'. I know this probably makes me sounds stupid but…meh. I know it's militaries normally but not sure since the product is named Military.

I've always spelled it ies. The marks on the steel insert are normal. The blade etchings look normal to me. As for the grind it looks like a little slip as they are hand sharpened.

Out of curiosity what's your date code?

I have a ti Millie and yours looks good to me.

And as far as spelling...depends on the context. ies for plural, y's for possessive.

Eg. The titanium Military's weight is one thing that distinguishes it from the other Militaries.

While we're on the subject of grammar and such, there's a world of difference between an imperfection and a defect. That Military's lockbar has an imperfection.

As for the "is it fake", if you buy from trusted sources, you'll never have to ask.

Should one say Leathermans or Leathermen? The company is named after Tim Leatherman so it seems wrong to say the latter. However in this case the word military is a name, but it is also a word, unlike Leatherman which just sounds like a word. So I write Militaries but I say and write Leatherman.
