This morning I bought a Vapor at Wal*Mart. I heard good things, and they were true. I don't like it quite as much as my Buck Mayo Cutback, but it's pretty close. And that is saying a lot because I really like my Cutback. Framelocks with holes in the frame is pure sex. Even if made in China in sold in Wal*Mart.
The knife looks (thanks Ken) and feels like a much more expensive knife.
Later in the day I recieved payment for something I sold on Ebay. Off to the knife store!
I got a Kershaw Nakamura. I paid retail for it, but I have come to terms with paying retail for knives at this store. I don't have to pay shipping, I don't have to wait for it to come, and I get to spend hour (and yes, I do literally spend hours) trying out knife after knife and chatting with the clerks. Of course I don't have to buy anything, but I would feel bad if I didn't. Anyways...
The Nakamura is better looking in person than I could have imagined from the pics. In pics, the polished blade looks a little cheesy, IMO. In real life, OMG... The line between the 420J2 and VG-10 even looks cool. The bolsters look awesome in the light. I wish the wood was coated so that it shined like the bolsters and blade, but then again, the contrast between the blade/bolsters and the non-reflective wood is sort of cool.
The liner lock clicks into place with a confidence-inspiring snap (sounds like my SERE 2000), and the fit and finish is good for the price (but not perfect- one of the scales doesn't make perfect contact with the liner at the bottom tip- you could slip a piece of paper under it)
The Vapor and Nakamura join my Leek in my drawer. Being about the same size, they look great next to each other.
I have ten knives on my immediate "to buy" list, and the Spec Bump is one of them. It may not be next as I buy whatever strikes my fancy at that moment (another good thing about getting to handle the knives in the store), but it will be mine... oh yes... it will be mine.
Can there be too many AKTs?
