I think I probably just bought the book that PointShoot was talking about in "First Khukuri?" a few days ago.
"I recently looked at a outdoor survival book written by a guy who was a Brit combat survival instructor. The book photos with the man's knife showed it wasn't just for looks, but a practical, useful tool. "
The whole book is a khukuri advertisement. He shows his 'kukri' and labels how he uses the different parts of the blade. His knife is hammered but obviously still functional. The blade is a little rusty and he's got the buttplate taped on. I thought at first it might be an HI Khukuri. If it is, its probably a Villager.
Throughout the rest of the book it shows him chopping, carving, slicing and notching (14-15 photos). There's even a drawing of him cutting sod for a sod hut. He uses his khukuri and a pocket knife and there's not another blade in the whole book.
Here's the book info. It's geared for a 6th to 8th grade reading level, mostly pictures with simple descriptions. (My kind of heavy reading.) It gives a simple instructions on a wide variety of topics. I've always wanted to know how to build an igloo.
The Complete Wilderness Training Book, Hugh McManners, DK Publishing Inc., New York, NY, 1998.
This was an impulse purchase at a Sam's Club for $5.50, or so.
Uncle Bill you ought to see that this man has an opportunity to get a new knife.
