Another knife with metal detector

I'll try to pop these pics on with Imgur. It'll either work, or it wont. It's metal detecting season and so far, One gold ring, one silver, one knife....in between the coins and junk. The folder has a lever nub on the back for blade release? To lock it ? No idea. It's seized up tighter than a nuns giz on a Saturday night right now. When I have time I'll clean it up and soak it in something to get it working again. I generally find knives every year. The orange doo hickey (called a Garrett carrot) is just a pin pointer that is used to.....pin point the find after the detector hit the signal. I clean up my digs after, to leave as little trace as possible.

The knife is a CRKT Kasper Crawford. The "nub" is the LAWKS lever which is a "safety" mechanism that prevents the liner lock from coming accidentally disengages when the blade is in the open/locked position.

Cool find. Since it's a stainless steel knife it should clean up nicely. I imagine someone was upset that they lost it.

I have a huge distaste for the LAWKS safety.

Nice finds. Is it pretty rare to find items of interest ?

Great find ! Late 90’s classic. I had that knife in high school 👍👍. A Crawford custom was my grail in 96, that was the next best thing. Was a Decent knife ! Maybe CRKT will do a Spa treatment? I’d go at it with a dental pick and some WD40 / 3 in one oil.

Congrats.

Still have mine, although it's the "pro" version. It's one of the very few CRKT I actually liked enough to keep (except for the goofy LAWKS). :)

Cool finds!

So as an aside, LAWKS and Auto LAWKS are two different beasts. I am FAR from a CRKT fan, they don’t get my attention anymore. But 18 years ago or so my grandfather bought me an M16 in aluminum and it had the LAWKS system on it. I liked it as I could choose to use it or not. Years later someone had given me one with Auto LAWKS to sharpen and tighten up the pivot. I HATE that. I actually disabled it for them so it was manual. It’s not a bad idea. To each their own. I still have the knife but don’t carry it anymore. I’d buy another so I could appreciate it later on in life again. My original is retired.
