Another Leek or Kershaw Avalanche?

I want to get another knife that won't break the bank. I was holding my Leek tonight and realized how nice it is so I was going to get the G10/S30V version but then I saw the Avalanche. I like the way that looks too, I wish they'd make a slightly larger bladed version of these two knives.

Is it a toss up between the two? I kind of want the Avalanche just to get something different.

Well, if it factors into your decision, I'm pretty sure the Avalanche is discontinued now. I'm really kicking myself for not buying one of the stone-washed models when they were available for cheap.

As for the leeks, I've owned the G10/S30V version and the stainless version, and I still use the 'standard' model but have long since sold off the G10 model. That's just my personal preference though.

Go with the avalanche. I just got a stonewashed one on ebay for $66, brand new. Maybe you can still find one there.

I'm pretty sure they stopped those, too. They've been taken off the Kershaw Website for some time now.

The Avalanche is completely discontinued. I believe the stonewashed S30V versions were the last of them.

*Grumbles*

GPKnives still has the black ones, maybe I'll pick one up. I also like the Spyderco Perrin PPT but I'm afraid it's a bit too small, why can't they make multiple sizes?

The S30V Stonewashed Avalanche is one of the best knives I've ever held. Great knife.

The Avalanche is a brilliant design that just feels right in the hand. Well built, with an S30V blade and full steel liners, complementing some 'grippy' G10 scales, there is little to want extra on the Avalanche. The design detail is brilliant with details like a Parkerized clip and two small steel pads under the clip so the G10 won't tear up your pockets. I sound like a damn salesman.

Anyway, I will never part with mine and after reading my mono-log, I just may have to find a second. ;)

how about a kershaw rake? you mentioned the perrin ppt, its an awesome knife also.

Might take some more pictures of it for it to grow on me...

I'd get an Avalanche if I could find a new stonewashed version, but since they're discontinued I guess I'm out of luck :(

I pulled out my avalanche for the first time in a few months and I had forgotten how nice of a knife it was for the money. Great coating, great steel, some of Kershaw's best flat G10 ever, the knife is very comfortable and secure, the AO kicks much harder than most AO knives....really just a quality piece in materials and execution. Just go get it.

there is one of the stonewashed combo edge ones on sale for a decent price on ebay right now. they have a few of the older black finish ones too.

I actually see a plain edge too from White Mountain Knives, but I hate sitting and waiting for bids. I wish they just had a Buy It Now price. If I remember, maybe I'll bid.

What is that?

Monologue! And you should get a second. I did :)

Really... The AO in both of my Avalanches is actually on the slow side. My older model Avalanche (black blade, 440V steel) had really fast AO, though.

They should really bring this knife back, at least for a short run.
