Hello all. Relatively new to Emerson Knives but i own a few now and have been reading and lurking on here for quite some time. I recently acquired a mini 7 intended for my edc blade. It came directly from Emerson and out of the box it locked up in the 20% range. I carefully took it apart, cleaned it, and reassembled. Lockup was now in the 40% range. In just a few days and opening/closing a couple hundred times (only waived maybe 5x), I now estimate lockup in 60% range. My questions are- Is this normal to wear in this fast? Has it settled and will it remain here for a good while? And lastly, did i do something wrong when I took the knife down? If it keeps wearing at this rate it will need sent back in another week. Thanks in advance for your time.

Welcome. Couple of questions. Is the pivot tightened properly? How is the blade action now compared to before it was taken down?

The lockup will vary from knife to knife and as long as there is no play and it is locking solid it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

As far as i know it is tightened properly but there may be something i am unaware of. It is smooth but not loose by any means. I tightened it just about all the way then backed it off a little.

Also make sure all the body screws are tight and everything is lined up. Ti will wear relatively fast compared to steel, but will reach a point where the lockup will stay pretty much the same for a long time.

I think everything is tightened adequately and equally. Thats what I was hoping to hear... break in quickly then level off and stay the same. Thanks.

Mine started at 40 ish percent, went over to 75 percent, went back to original 40 percent and has stayed there for a while. It took a few weeks to set it in.
