Another Mini Grip or North Fork, or ?

My trusty and beloved 556 Mini Griptilian seems to have disappeared. The obvious choice is to get another one, since it had stayed with me while others had come and gone and became my only modern folder.

On the other hand, maybe I should try something new. You just know it will turn up again as soon as I replace it...

I'm looking for other knives of the same size and functionality as a BM 556. One option that caught my eye is the BM North Fork; it looks to be about the same dimensions and the Diamond Wood scales are attractive. I am concerned about the recurve in the blade though, as that seems like it would be hard to sharpen - especially on paper wheels.

I'd love to hear impressions of the North Fork vs, the Mini Grip, and also suggestions for other knives to stand in for my MIA Mini Grip.

Uh-oh. I just noticed the BM 707 Sequel too. I really like that; basically a Mini Grip with a much nicer handle.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

I have a 707. It has some blade play in every direction, and a handle that to me just feels small. Its for sale in one of my threads here, i do not like the knife at all and honestly dont reccomend it. If i were you id go with a mini ritter grip. I have one and its one of my edc go to's. Ble s30v and blade shape are perfect.

I've had a couple of 707s. They never stay because the handle is very... thin. It doesn't really compare to the mini-G as far as user comfort goes, at least, not for me. A mini-Ritter might be a nice, safe change up for you. You know you like the handle and the Ritter blade will be a bit different than the standard blade.

The Northfork is a very nice stand-in for the mini-Gs... nearly the same size, G10 scales, a bit heavier, and a slight recurve to the edge of the blade. I can get a bit more 4th finger on the Northfork handle than I can the mini-G handle. I don't use wheels to sharpen so I can't tell you how well they'll work, but my Northfork sharpens easily on the corners of my Sharpmaker rods.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been considering the Mini Ritter Grip, although I am still attracted to the Sequel. If I can find one in good shape that is not to expensive, I'd be tempted to try it.

I'm kind of off the North Fork now. Don't care for the recurve.

I have also, to my surprise, become interested in the Spyderco Sage 1. Spydies have never appealed to me much for aesthetic reasons, but it seems like a great edc.

Unless you have monster hands I think the 707 is a better knife personally. It's pretty much the only BM I've regretted parting with.

Eh, I wear a medium glove and the 707 still feels too small to me. 556/525/586 are all good. 707 is just a hair too short.

Don't forget the 903 mini stryker. Also, the north fork recurve isn't hard to get rid of.

It's tough when you have g.a.s. and want to try something new. I'd have to say for edc the Ritter mg is as close to perfect as you can get. The delica, blur and mg are just excellent across any price range if you strip out slipjoints or the odd but great cheapie knife like opinel.

My wife bought me a North Fork as a gift for my first Father's Day, and it really is a nice knife. I prefer steel liners, even at the expense of additional weight, so that is a point of preference over the (Mini) Grip in my case. Also, it's just a classy looking knife to my eyes. No blade play on mine, although it hasn't been subjected to much wear and tear yet.
