Just got 2 of my 3 MOADs (gotta look into that) and I couldn't be more psyched!!

This thing is a monster and is everything I could ask for and more. It has tremendous power for chopping, yet is nimble enough for de-limbing and trail clearing. It is massive, but by no means unwieldy and the balance point is perfection. The 1311 is a Hybrid that excels at the tasks it was made for - chopping and machete work.

Since it's rainy here and I live in the city without any vegetation, I didn't get too much of an opportunity to test it out. I did get the chance to take a few fallen limbs and chopped them up. My first swing was at a branch approximately 2" in diameter and the MOAD destroyed it in one fell swoop. After that, I chopped a few bigger branches and the MOAD blew away my expectations. I can't wait to get out into the woods and bash this beast some more!

The B-11 is still a fantastic blade and I will definitely keep using it; it is INFI after all, which means a lot when you may not be able to sharpen the blade for a while. The Dogfather(s) will be the blades I carry when something shorter is more comfortable and appropriate and when I need more of a chopper rather than a hybrid. I will have to do some comparisons because the Dogfather with a good edge is a monster chopper due to its heft. I think all three blades have their strengths and will all see use based on the scenario.

Below are some obligatory pictures of my favorite Res-C choppers:

Nice pics. Can't wait to read your side by side review.
I'm glad I waited until the 1311 was released instead of jumping on a B11 and then having the shop swap out the grip for a B10 style.

Great review and comparison shots!
I agree, the 1311/MOAD/FDM = amazing price:performance chopping/machete user!
Especially handy when you are trying to clear out some thorny brush/weeds or other hard to reach places.

I'm still loving the Basic 11. The steel is superior and it has been my go-to chopper for so long that I think it'll be hard to let go of. I think I was close to as excited as I am about the MOAD when I got my B-11. The grips really don't bother me, but I do prefer the newer basic style res-c grips because they fill the hand out more.

I agree with everything you said. Bushes don't stand a chance against the MOAD!

Got mine today and am surprised at how light they are.
Agreed. I expected it to be light because of the thickness, but it is still something you've got to feel to appreciate.

Congrats to the rest of you who got their MOADs or are getting them soon!

I too just received mine today and man I'm in love. So glad I grabbed one of these babies, now the long wait for my sniper hawk. All I have to do now is perfect the edge geometry and I'm ready to go to town.

I got bored of not being able to make it out into the woods, so I took my nieces favorite skateboard (tinker bell) to become MOAD food. What can I say? You've got to feed the monster. (Read the footnote if you think I'm a terrible person.)

I didn't anchor the skateboard down, so it moved around a lot while I was demolishing it. After I got a decent way in, it was too hard to use proper chopping technique and angle my chops, so I had to chop straight down mostly from that point on. The MOAD bites DEEP. I'd say with my best chop, I was getting the blade around 80% into the wood.

Here's a picture of the skateboard after the MOAD got its fill. Problem is, that was yesterday and the MOAD is getting hungry again. What am I to do? This thing has a tremendous appetite for destruction.

It bites DEEP (I got it to bite even deeper before)

Footnote:
I found this skateboard randomly not far from the dumpsters at my apartment a little while ago. It was already broken and I took it as a gag gift for a friend who happens to think Tinker Bell is the best Disney character. It is definitely NOT my nieces, nor would I ever be so cruel to any of my lovely nieces or nephews.

To those of you who already have one, how are the edges from the factory?

Are they coming shaving sharp, or are they just a useable edge?

all 4 of the ones I got were freakin razor blades, Mike did a excellent job sharpening them.

also here is a pic next to my slightly modified Ontario 1944 style Machete.

beprepared,,,,my 1311 came with a super nice edge all the way to the tip.very even and sharp!!!i gotta say this is the best scrapyard knife ive ever had.

Congrats Flux!..:D:thumbup::thumbup:

I'm STILL waiting for mine.:(

Thanks Tom!! Are you going to be making sheaths for them? I'll take one if so :D.

I've been having a hard time deciding what to do about a sheath, but I know I need one quickly.

Beprepared: Both of mine came very sharp; Alan did an excellent job! My user, the one with my JYD #, can shave really well from the hot spot to the tip. There is one 3-4 inch section a few inches from the handle that struggles shaving a little bit. The edge is still more than adequately sharp in that section and I couldn't be happier. I've been thwacking away with it and the edge is as good as it was from the factory. The other one I got shaves well.

Great review mate, mine (well OURS) are between the US and my PO Box right now....!!!!

Looks like they might make it to Australia before mine gets to S/W Missouri!........:(

I don't know how but our 4-11s leap frogged the 13-11s and are in my hand....

Great pics Flux and congrats on a sweet blade.... ;)
