I'm a new Commander owner. I love the action on this thing. I'm also gaga about the pocket hook. Way cool

Can you old time Commander owners answer a few things:
confused.gif

1-Is it normal for the balde to pull to one side while retracted(in). It's sometimes rubbing the liner on the belt clip side when thumbing the blade open or closed.
2-Are other owners finding a recurring need to retighten the pivot screw. It seems to loosen with frequency.
I'd be grateful for input, info and other perspectives.

The loose pivot screw is a common situation with these knives. I usually get the perfect tension just using my thumb to retighten, so not a serious problem in my opinion. If it bothers you that much you could use locktite. I chose not to, because I figure it would make disassembly more difficult.

My Commander had the same problem with the blade in the closed position. It would rest close to one side of the liner when closed, and would rub against the liner when opened with the thumb. I sent the knife back to Emerson Knives, and it came back a week later. I believe that they replaced the liner, but am not sure. Whatever they did, the blade sits perfectly centered and no longer rubs.

I would suggest that you send an e-mail to Emerson Knives explaining your problems. I am sure that they will help you out. I was very impressed with their customer service.

Regards,
Joe

Thanks for the POV & info. I'll give it a try. Despite these issues, I really love this knife.

bfkd,

I am also a new Commander owner with the same initial observations.

I too noticed the blade scraping slightly on the clip side of the liner. There were actually two problems. The clip screw closest to the top of the liner was a bit too long and was protruding through the liner and just catching the side of the blade. I simply switched screws with one that fit flush with the liner in that particular location. The blade was still offset between the liners. I opened the blade and, carefuly, applied force in opposite directions to the blade and handle. I felt a slight "click". I suspect that something in the pivot area may have seated itself. Anyway, the blade now rests dead center beween the liners.

As to the loose pivot? Hey it's adjustable. Maybe a bit too easily adjustable but readily fixed at your preferred tension with either teflon tape or blue locktite.

I like my Commander more every day. It is in fact, my favorite large folder. For the price, however, attention to fit and finish should be perhaps more consistently applied.

I recently purchased a plain blade Green-T Commander direct from Emerson and did not have any problems and the fit and finish were excellent!

I am glad that you guys are enjoying your Commanders. All of the problems that you describe are indicative of the loose pivot.

We have and continue to look at factory Loctite but, again, that raises the ease of dissassembly question. I have used removable Loctite on my own Commander.

Let me know here or by email if you can not get your problems resolved.

Take care,
Derek
