Hi,

While browsing James Keating CombatTech web site I run into this "soon to be available from Spyderco in 2 different sizes...it will have the new REKAT locking mechanism..."

You can read it at: http://www.combattech.com/catalog/jkknvs/jkknvs.htm

Can anyone comment on this CHINOOK ? Maybe an official spyderco Rep, as I haven't heard of it so far...

Thanks

Here's a scan, previously posted in this forum, of a couple of Chinook prototypes. Mechanics and materials are subject to change. The one on Keating's page, with a rolling lock, may be a newer incarnation.

Thanks James, it's always nice to hear from you again...best regards from Israel and Happy new Year

Oh gee, and I just love the text next to Keating's picture of the knife that encourages people to call Spyderco (complete with 800#) to bug them about when the knife will be available.

Isn't this just exactly what Sal has asked us not to do? Sigh...

Should be out in 2000. Still having problems getting everthing the way we'd like.

Am I the only one who looks at that picture and sees mama and baby elephant?

Sal,
Don't listen to them! it looks like a great cross between utility and defense, keep us posted

Yup, Rhinos. Them's ugly, but they're MY KIND of ugly! I like it, but that looks like a liner lock to me. Sal, the REKAT lock is a sure thing, right?

Damn, those are uglier than the first time I looked. They look like one of them Frost Booies "handmade by Pakistani craftsmen from surgical-quality 420J Stainless steel . . . " But I bet the quality makes a big difference.

OOPS! I was going by those prototypes w/o looking at the pic on Keating's site.
Aaah. Much cooler. Still ugly but in that cool Spydie way.

Sal,

If it were up to me, I would bring that tip down a tad bit. That would make a better overall performer for me and why I like your MBCF better. But I am sure Keating has his stylistic reasoning for it. All I can say is if you produce this, I hope you will go ahead with the MBCF. You design is just as good if not better in my opinion.

For this knife, "ugliness is as ugliness does" is probably a compliment.
