picked up a Taurus 617. i love it! 7 shot .357 mag. with a 2 inch barrel. now i just need a holster....and ammo to show back up.

Congrats!

I've been putting off all my INFI buying lately picking up firearms. Ammo prices are killing me.

Trade it back in and get the 627-8 be for it's too late. Get the PC one...

I would have to agree but in case you decide to keep the Taurus:

Taurus instructions, 1) open the cylinder, 2)thread a length of nylon rope through the frame and tie in a knot, 3) use gun as boat anchor for small to medium size water craft.

Just kidding, but if money is no object then there is no better revolver than the S&W, Performance Center is even better.

I haven't held a Taurus in years, but when I had my FFL I sold several of the model 85's. My brother still has his, and its a great little gun for the price.

I am suprised that Tauraus would name a revolver 617 since S&W has had a 617 revolver for over 20 years.

Congrats buddy. I have shot lots of Taurus handguns and have had no issues. You are right though, ammo cant get back to normal fast enough for me.

I would have to agree with the other guys regarding S&W being the standard when it comes to revolvers. I love my 686P but by far my favorite is a 19-3 that's in very good condition.

As far as ammo goes I decided to get into reloading during the 2008 election which is paying off quite a bit right now.

Taurus are just fine in my book. (from my limited experience at least) Had a 1911 for a bit and worked flawlessly, actually sold it to Jerry Busse here on the forums a while back.

Enjoy it. When its needed, hopefully never, it will go off. Thats all you need. Plus it wont hurt so bad when they take it til they figure out if you get it back.

Plus the Taurus shooter is hot!!

S &W'S is not;):D

+1

Everyone needs a new gun.

Personally though, the only Taurus that's shot well for me is their new 500 S&W mag. Put at least 40 rounds through it and was fairly accurate. The concussion was pretty fun too :)

Damn MOABs taking all your gun funds :grumpy:

I had a Taurus that the cylinder timing was off so far it would peel the jacket off of the bullet when you shot it.
Sent it back and they had it for 4 months in their custom shop, it was still a POJunk as far as I'm concerned.
As far as used value..Taurus has none, S&W will always go up as they age.

:thumbup:Nothing wrong with a Taurus. I like the 357 Mag round. I got a Ruger SP101 2 1/4" barrel that I really like, and I carry my Glock G27 with a 357 Sig barrel:D

not problem with it so far. i know that taurus made a rep of not being the greatest but they have stepped it up quite a bit. its a well put together gun and functions flawlessly. tight lock up no movement when the hammer it back whole thing is tight as a drum. and for 300 bucks im not about to complain. its accurate for a 2 inch barrel at least it has been for me. the gun has enough weight that .357 isnt too bad. i wouldnt shoot it all day long but its not too much to pratice with. i have a S&W 642 and it is an excelent gun. the fit and finish is better than the Taurus, yes, but as far as shoot-ability goes i have seen no difference.
