Another new guy fit & finish question - Tidioute Sleeveboard

So as I venture into traditional knife collecting, I'm purchasing a number of different models and patterns to see what I enjoy carrying the most and would like to start collecting. I just got a GEC sleeve board in, but here again I don't know if what I'm looking at is a flaw or to be expected. The gap in pictures 2 and 3 is my area of concern. Thanks again in advance.

We never like it that way but I have worse and seen worse by far! It's a some what common imperfection on production slip joints. Welcome aboard TDS!

It looks like the secondary coping blade was tight on opening and they adjusted it at the factory. If blade opening (both) feels good, I wouldn't be concerned.

I have a 48 that has that exact same gap. If it's super worrisome to you, you could try to exchange it for another knife. If it were me, I'd throw it in my pocket and be happy, unless there were other issues.

How's that main blade look in those positions?

That's the other area of concern. The main blade looks to be either rubbing or making contact with the liner. unfortunately I think I'm going to have to put this one back in the mail for an exchange. Although, I do love the pattern and model.

The single spring knives tend to rub. Either the other blade or the liner. Nature of the beast.

If this is the "space" you are referring to? It's part of the function of the knife, there is a catch bit that acts as a spacer, without it the two blades would hit/collide or one blade would need to be bent in order to accommodate the two blade using one spring

Yes it is, and thanks for the explanation sir.

No problem, I've been carrying mine for a while, it's in my pocket so I snapped some pics, hope this eases your concern

Not true at all. A well built knife doesn't rub. I have quite a few single spring knives with no rubs.
Well, I've never had a two blade single spring that didn't rub. Only stating my personal experience. If we all could hand pick our knives, then there would be no threads of this nature. If I'm not mistaken, you are in a position where you can do that.

Someone has to end up with them ;)

You are mistaken again. Every knife I EDC is marked with an S from the Factory. You don't know anything about me.

I have one with the same gap. It felt a little gritty, so I was washing it out, working the blades open under running water. It was only then I noticed the gap, and thought for a second I had broken something! I had to look at a picture I had taken of it before to see the gap had been there all along.

At the time, I went looking for pictures of this model on the web, but couldn't find any taken from an angle where it could be seen. I see now it's common to the pattern. As far as blade rub, I've never been bothered by it. I use this one for whittling, so I'll scratch up the blade one way or another. :)

I agree, and while I don't own any single-spring GEC knives, I have a lot of other single-spring knives, and I'm not aware of any of them having blade-rub.
