Hi all,

Or is it 2 knives LOL read on and find out.

I had a fellow send me drawing of a knife he wanted made.
Well I liked his thoughts and so I made one up too, But LOL
I changed the handle pins just a little. He wanted the first 2 pins to be offset
and one middle one and then a hollow one near the pommel. Well I thought
I would get rid of the middle and the last one near the pommel and put 6
1/8" pins off set and then a hollow landyard hole also. well this is what it
looks like. It is not any thing all that special it has a 4.25" long handle with some curves and then a 4.25" long by 3/32" thick and is 1" tall blade.

Well I was shaping the handle this morning and then just finished putting the polished edge on when my nephew comes into the shop and says Grampa wants fresh grain feed turkey for dinner. Kory wanted to know if I had any new knives I wanted to try out for food prep. I thought to myself YEP with a big smile, yes I told him I sure do. Well here are the pics I was pretty pleased with how this knife did.

Enjoy the pics and Oh those with( weak constutions) do not look at the rest of this thread LOL. A turkey is being processed.

Here is a hand shot.

another hand shot.

here is the turykey and the orange handled knife plus one of my Final Option knives. I did half of the turkey with the orange handle blade and the other half with the Final Option blade. I tell ya the little blade with the 1/16" thick steel just peeled that birds skin just awesome Well I think that anyways LOL

Carving up the bird with the Orange handled knife.

here is a pic of the Final Option knife getting into the work to LOL. for such a small knife, it really did a good job. If for some reason I had lost or what ever and had to use my little Final Option Kit knife. A little knife like this
is not like having a bigger knife to work with but it does CUT. That is what a knife is for right ?

Well I like the way the 6 off set pins look with the landyard one to.

What do you all think? Is it a keeper? I am right now thinking (YEP) LOL. at least for food prep anyways and maybe a a few camp chores to LOL

Very nice, I will have to get around to posting pics of the ones you made me last fall.

That turkey never saw it coming.

I like the spearpoint style....Though I keep grabbing that bigpaw as my goto knife. It just feels indestructable. Bryan, you'd slap me silly if you saw how I was flexing that thing in the big old pitch stump with Doc's buddy last week. It just flexed back to true with no fix and none the worse for wear. That thing seems to be able to take anything I throw at it. With the way you sharpen your blades now I think you get as much performance out of 5/64 as you do thinner stock. That is a great survival blade thickness IMO!

That's a really cool pin arrangement Bryan, looks good. That turkey looks delicious! Both of those knives are good looking designs.

Wow, the bird looks almost as nice as the knife, and I LOVE turkey. Saying that, I guess that means the knife is one awesome blade  I think you have a real winner with that one.

wow, good stuff Bryan, nice to see the new knives still moving up in design, sometimes makers just stick to what works, and dont try anything new, but that definetly works!

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments on this knife and the turkey LOL

Yea E R Guy lets see them pics LOL.

kgd we all have our favs LOL . As for the slapping you. maybe LOL
0-1 steel is a great steel. Yea the way the grind is put in the the way it is sharpened yes you can slice a tomato with a 1/16" blade or even 1/4" blade. now the tomato is the easy one LOL try that same cutting chore with a nice crisp apple and you will most liky hear the apple give way and crack LOL when using a thicker steel. I have even had that cracking thing happen with my 3/32" bladed knife I made for in the kitchen. But so far I have not had that happen with a 1/16" thick blade LOL.( YET) My 1/16" thick blades just slide right through the newest and crisped if that is word apple. LOL I love it.
kgd I like the thicker blades to LOL I think they have there place just like the thinner blades do.

Rocketbomb yea I really liked the way the pins turned out to LOL.

The game, thanks, yea the turkey was pretty nice not as nice as the knife though LOL;) I do agree with I think the knife is a keeper too.

Rockywolf, yea I was pretty pleased with both of them. Just let me know when you want a peacmaker made up LOL.

Fonly, thanks, I am not sure if, well I am not sure how to say this LOL
but, I am not so sure I or any other makers are really making any thing new.
I make drop points, spear points, clip points and have different shaped handles and now we have a pretty cool selection of handle materials that the makers of long ago did not have like we have today.

That little Final Option knife that I made up and sent to the
United States Rescue and Special Operation Group. Well that main guy there George Jasper wrote a book. I read the book. He talks about a little survival kit in there and what he thought would be a last resort type kit. when all else is lost or what ever seperated you from your normal survival gear. Mr Jasper had a list of items and one of the items was single edge razor blade for your cutting tool. Well that got me thinking and I thought a 1/16" thick small knife would be better to have than a razor blade. so out comes the paper and pencil, a design was drawn, out to the shop and a small knife is built. I contacted the US RSOG and was able to get in touch with Mr Jasper.
I told him about reading his book and then making up this little knife and so on. I was planning on calling the knife the Jasper knife in honor of him. He said that is niffty idea ( the knife LOL)and that knife like this should have been in the SERE community 25 years back. here is the pic I sent to him.

101_1492.jpg

on the left is the kit items like he decribed in the book, on the right is the little knife and then the contents that I exspanded on.

I made and sent him a couple of knives and he ahs taken them out in the field and wrote on the US RSOG forum and said some nice things about the Final option knife.

I did not not do any thing great no, ok maybe I was the first to use the 1/16" thick blade for a little knife, and put it in a pic with the other items listed.
but I am not the first one to make a small PSK type knife. most use the 1/8" thickness or maybe even the 3/32" thickness.
Grampa was in the shop not to long ago and was looking at the knives I was working on. "Oh he says you are woking on a drop point type hunting knife.
I made my share of them back in my day." You see Grampa went to a school back in 1936 ( LOL Yea that long ago ) to learn how to make knives and chisles and some other tools for the farm. it is cheaper to make them sometimes than it is to buy them. remember this was the depresion era.
So Like I said I really did not make a new knife or anything. Small and big knives have been made for years. Now the knives that Gil hibbon makes LOL WOW they are some really wild looking knives. Nessmuk would says they are scary looking things.

Ok the Sparky knife with the firesteel in the handle that is something you do not see every day LOL. You got me there Fonly LOL.

But for the most part I make simple knives for cutting chores like food prep, cutting string, tape, shaving wood for fires and cleaning my finger nails, cutting ticks in half that I take off kelly girl LOL. I do not tie my knives to a sticks and use it as a spear or try to dig with it, cut up cinder blocks, stuff like that LOL.
I am pretty pleased with the way the pins and the landard hole turned out though. I think it looks cool.

Well now that, all that has been said LOL. I had a well to me a special purpose for this knife that I made. You it is the size of the a knife that I have from another company. I was going to replace the knife and carry my knife in the sheath that I got from that company. Well in the process I thought I might make a hole new sheath ( working on that now LOL) too.

I know that we all come here to learn and share about survival skills, camping , bushcraft, outdoor, emergency, or what ever you like to call it skills.
I like to carry a fixed blade over a folder for my main carry. i carry pocket supplies and stuff on my key chain. just like most of you do to.
BUT when you put your pack way or put your key chains on the hook by the door or take your pocket supplies out or take your cloths off and get into
your shorts and a tee shirt and relax at home while you fixed dinner or sit out on the patio or what ever you do in your home.

Well I still like to have 2 fixed blades, Firesteel and tinder, 550 cord, fishing hooks, a whisle, knife sharpener, and little flash light. and so I do I carry it in a baldric set up. as I write this up this is it.

101_1554.jpg

101_1556.jpg

this is what I plan to replace the other knife with LOL

101_1555.jpg

when I get up if I do not put my cloths on with all my belt gear and pocket gear I just loop this little kit over my shoulder and go on with my day until I do put my other gear and cloths on.

yea I could clip on a folder or have shorts that have a pocket to put some gear into but this is what I like and use.

So if I happen to run down into the basement ( no windows) and the lights go out I just reach for my little light and find my way back out of the dark basement and head to my other gear ( bigger flashlight LOL) and do what needs to be done. Or If I have to run out of the house and keep on running for what ever reason ( wall of water, fire, nasty wind or the russian army is dropping down in for chat RED DAWN ring a bell LOL)

I am going to have a little bit more than folder clipped to my shorts and a little light in my pocket LOL.

Self preservation is pretty important. I kind of like me and I like having me around LOL with a few peaces of gear and some training and pracitce witch I do will sure help keep me around a little longer I think.
What do you think. Have people had to run out of there house and keep on running for a day or more YEP. the fires in the land down under, Katrina,
How about that group of people several hundred years back ( about 20 cen) in that city that was told 30 years roughly before to watch out for the time when when this city will lye in ruins and not one rock will be upon another.
sure enough the romans came and destroyed that city and the poeple who did not head the warning died some yucky ways. The fellow who told about this comming cricses told his freinds this. Well his 12 freinds asked when is this going to happen, the man gave a list of events to look for and his freinds listened to this advice and when the Romans came none of his freinds where inthe city and were able to flee to the hills and mountians.

Oh and by the way when Jesus told his 12 freinds about this he also told them that if they had 2 coats to sell one and buy a KNIFE. Now only a great freind would tell you that LOL

Well that is the reason I wanted to make this knife up and replace the other one. I plan make and another sheath with some other features too when it is all done I will post a pic of it LOL

I don't know Bryan. I think the next time somebody takes a picture of you sitting at a computer, that you should at least be wearing some pants :D

Bryan, this is why you are my favorite custom knife maker. Great designs, great service, wicked sharp blades. I like the Final Option blade a lot! I also think the new design is a keeper. The hardest part for me is choosing my next knife from you. Excellent job! Take care,

James

brian, before we got off the phone i meant to ask what the screw was for thats tied onto the hook.

Hi all,

Thanks for comments again.

LOL
I ment to put my hat on so you would not see my uncombed hair LOL
but forgot:eek: As to the waring pants well just like I said I was wearing
Gym type shorts for walking around the house and stuff LOL.

Favorite maker !!!! Thanks James LOL.

Richard the screw is for the hook to be able to attached the hook to a staff or stick whatever you want to call it LOL. For a gaft Hook for fish or game. I tell ya they are wickedly affective in catching and holding fish and game Birds included. you might not get as close to the animal but with a long pole with a hook on the end of it can really get you closer to catching them.

LOL well depending on the size of the hook and what animal you tangle with:D

James,

Those are exactly my thoughts as well.

Varg lobos thanks, LOL

Coaldigger, thanks, Yea I know the pic was not that great. Damn that wife of mine LOL she was taking the picture.

rksoon, thanks, I am pretty happy with this one to LOL. I showed this one to my mom. After she looked at it and then held this knife in her hand she said Oh this will make such a nice paring type knife for the kitchen. i think she is right I have been using it for kitchen chores since I made it up LOL. I defenently see another one of these being made but with a little longer blade and with some osage wood for the handles. It sliced and diced that turkey up just fine too LOL.

I was going to use this knife for the baldric set up that I am working on but instead made a sheath for it to wear on my belt. But with a twist to the sheath it also has a 6' wrapp of Orange 550 cord on it and a yellow whistle and my normal pouch for a knife sharpener and a firesteel.
Tha baldric set up is going to get the little longer blade for it.

Thanks again for the comments on the knives I made,

Bryan
