Well everyone else is doing it so. I've been meaning to post some collection pics and today was the first non rainy weekend day in a while. I started collecting khukuris in October of last year. Since then this is what I've gotten. Never had more fun collecting anything before. I just sent my dad his 18" GRS and he loves it. I miss that one. It was a sweetie.

Some things to look for in the pics is the BAS'. I am really proud of those 3 especially the shop 1. Also check out the new frogs. That is a project I finished last night that I will detail in another thread.

The khuks shown are:

20" Jange by Bura in saaj
14" Seax by Kumar wearing neem
15" Villager BGRS by Bura dressed in hill walnut
Chiruwa AK by Kumar with horn scales
10.5" Sgt Khadka with beautiful hill walnut
Tora WWII
KH Mini Panawal
15" Villager BAS by new kami RAM in horn
15" Shop 1 BAS from JP in horn
15" Sgt Khadka BAS wearing Horn
18" FF by Bura with a great looking chandan handle

And also there is 5 small knives in the pictures, 2 sarge, 2 jkm, and one KK.

hrm, smells like a serious case of HIKV...

That feathered horn handle is something else!

The new frogs add some nice contrast with the usual black leather.

Love em! So, which one is your favorite now that the 18" GRS is gone?

Everything is confused when it comes to favorites right now. I'm still leaning toward the FF. If it was a few ounces heavier I would never carry anything else (its 24 oz). I still love the Chiruwa AK, and its my truck knife, and I don't like being too far from it. The WWII is right up there, and so are all 3 bas. That BAS villager is just a wonder, the Khadka is like a friggin Bentley to hold, and the Shop 1 is just an honor to hold and own. On top of all that the dang BGRS in hill walnut may be my favorite. Its a villager too, and I just love the GRS design. Which one is my favorite? The question makes steam shoot out of my ears.

You have an eye for khukuris, Andy. Those are all very nice.

"Which one is my favorite?"

Probably, all of them.

Mike

I had to smile.

I counted a bazillion khuks in your collection and then read how you "miss" the 18incher you sent to your Dad.

Repeat after me: "My name is Andy and I am a khukaholic."

Very nice collection and pictures. Thanks.

What a terrific collection. You've done good!

Hey, I didn't see a Pen Knife. You need one of those. I think they are my favorite.

My name is Andy and I am a khukaholic. Too true. Thats why that 15" pen knife is certainly on my list, sir. The list is still rather long... unforutnately.;) I don't begruge my dads khuk. He is a knife nut too. And a history buff. I printed out pictures of the kami process, and history of the Gurkas etc. Then I made him a sheath and also sent the scabbard and accessory knives. And to top it off I refinished the satistal handle so that grain pops. He was all giddy when he called. Of course he's never seen a blade that thick. Remember when you held your first khuk and thought, "Holy thick blade, Batman! What can I chop right now?" That was him on the phone. :p

Dang Astro, you're right. Its not there. I have it in my bug out bag, and I forgot to get it in there. Dagblasted and damnation! I wanted a pic that was inclusive, now I'll have to start over. That one is a dazzler too. Good eye Astro!:p

They look different when they're photographed together or alone. I like looking at khuks in groups, too.

My Lord Andy, what a nice collection! Thank's for posting. I like that Jange on the left. That's a model I'm not very familiar with, but it looks like it would be good candidate for an upper limit one-handed chopper. My 18" AK works well in one hand, but when i switch to the 22" GRS things are getting pretty marginal. That 20 incher might be just the ticket.

BTW, if you like your Mini Panawal, consider trying a Panawal Supreme. IMHO it's one of the best KH makes. You would probably need to smooth out the wood to metal fit on the handle though.

Very, very nice Andy! In that last pic, what is the striped handle in front? Is that the Saaj Jange? I don't have any of that wood and that is the second closeup I have seen of it and I love it. Please confirm that's what it is, would you?

Also, there is something different about that handle. Did you add those grooves, or are they a different type of ring?

Thanks for any info and the great piccs.

I made a bet with the wife that you couldn't name just ONE. Today I'm feeling like a winner.:D

Norm, that one looks the the BGRS dressed in hill walnut.

As for the Jange......IIRC it's the ONLY 24 oz one. Narrow waist fat belly.I want ! :grumpy: :o

Norm that baby is the 15" BGRS Villager in Hill Wallnut. One of my favorites for sure. The ring was placed funny and I couldn't get a good grip on it so I sanded it off and redid the rings with a chainsaw file. Maybe I'll do a picture of my most recent rework of the foxy folly handle. I used a chainsaw file on it too.

Bill that Jange is handleable with one hand. Its a different beast than either your 18" AK or your 22" GRS because its only 24 oz. Lemme tell you something before I launch into the handle. That blade is so dang beautiful, no, its plain sexy. The curves, the workmanship, the thing is like looking at excalibur. I always get visions of some chorus of virgins singing when I look upon it. That said onto my saaj tirade.

To all. The saaj handle on the jange, which I haven't had the time to rework yet (soon) is my least favorite. Saaj wood is very soft, think pine. I have no idea of the character of the wood yet because until you sand off the HI finish you just don't know what the wood really looks like. In Kazeryu's thread about his pen knife someone mentioned all the dirt that gets into the waxy buffing compound as they work it. You can imagine that their hands are not so clean during work too. Every time I've sanded off an HI finish I've been shocked at the difference. This is not a complaint. I like refinishing wood. I have just never seen any finishing technique that masks woods character as much as this one.

Bill, I noticed a couple of beautiful wood handles in your collection. They would show 3 times more figure if you sanded them down and put some Watco's Danish Oil on them. Then maybe tru oil if you want shiny. Trust me, if you want to see how pretty that wood is you've got to sand off that dirty yak skat infested wax. You'll thank me later. Take before and after pics too. They'll even suprise you.

Good eye again Astro. ;)
