I've been on here for a bit doing some looking around. I have seen some very well crafted knives. While I'm not as yet looking to forge my own blades, I am looking for some help on handles. I have a supplier for blades and handle material but not much luck on "how to" make a handle. What type of equipment do I need. They will be straight blade knives, no folders.

I sure would appericiate any help.

Thanks.

The bigest comsumable I go through is sand paper, 80 grit, 220, 320, 400, 600, are the most used, though I do go up to 2000 grit. I probably use twice the 320 than anything else.

Other than that files and rasp will get you a long way. Remember that a belt grinder is nothing more than a faster file.

Also if your doing full tange knives you need something flat like a pane of glass or surface block to sand the scales as flat as posible.

Good luck

Thanks all.

Thanks Cougar. Wasn't sure where to put it.

Will, could you put more light on this? Sand the scales?

you need one surface of your handle scales and you tang to be nice and flat so they fit together tightly without gaps. you can do this with a belt sander pretty well with a little practice.
