I hope you guys don't get tired of these 110 dating questions. I have looked and searched but can't date this one other than pre 1973.

Its a 110 with no model number anywhere
Says Buck USA on the tang and is Inverted (read tip down)
Has a Brass rear spacer
Has a Brass Rocker pin ( pretty much smooth with the handle)
Two handle pins (3 total counting the rocker pin)
Wood is dark and fine grained so I am guessing ebony?
Nain nick is struck and the back edge is pretty much under the point where the top flat edge of the blade makes the down sweep to the tip
As close as I can measure it, appears to be 9/16 inch thick
Bolsters are squared off versus rounded, if that is saying it correctly.
Sheath is well worn and says Buck above the snap
Snap has Buck one line
Sheath does not have the 110 on lower back.

Knife and sheath are in good shape. Someone did put the blade on a grinder and the curve is gone off the bottom of the tang, but the edge itself does not appear to have been ground very much. Interestingly enough, the two 2 pin 112's I have are also smoothed off on the bottom of the tang. Must have been in the era when people used grinders to sharpen blades..

Thanks Guys,
I appreciate any info,
Larry ( a fairly new BCC life member)

Yep, sounds like a late 2nd version or maybe early 3rd version.

1968-1971 give or take a little.

Thanks guys, I knew it was '72 or older. Just didn't know if the brass spacer, rocker pin, and no 110 on the sheath might help date it a little closer. I guess I will keep it :D

Larry,

Is the brass spacer a separate piece or is it integral with the right hand side (frame) of the knife?

According to the information that I have they went to the separate brass spacer around 1970.

Looks just like a stainless spacer, just brass, so not intergral with the bolster. The one on my 112 is also a separate spacer and not intergral.

Will the handles on this one be ebony? I know they are not micarta. That is what is on the 112.

Thanks again for the info.

Larry,

The handle material would be ebony. Since you are a member of the Buck Collectors Club I recommend you go to their web site and download the February 2002 newsletter. It has an article by Joe Houser about the 110 and gives a pretty good time line on its development over the years.
