On ebay there a ATS-34 with the newer handle shape numbered "60".

There's alot of little know variations out there!

Not sure if it was intentionally done by the seller, but I noticed that the date on the certificate was covered up in every photo...

I noticed that also and it made me wonder if there was a reason or if it is just a coincident.

From the Sebenza FAQ:

– Anne Reeve, 10/28/98

Small Sebenza was introduced in the later part of 1993.

We started to change over to the new profile around April/May 1996. The first time the new profile had a bunch of publicity was the front cover of Tactical Knives issue of Fall 1996 which was available in July that year.

The intention was that the new profile should be available with BG42 but we experienced problems getting BG42 in time. So for a very short time, we made new profile Sebenzas with ATS 34 blades.

Seems to be one of these "transitional" new style sebenzas.
I'll have to ask Anne about the strange location of the "60"

This same guy sold a pristine large old style in ATS-34 a month or so ago. same thing, he covered the dates on the card. No biggie, as I knew approx the age. I don't think it's an accident, he/she is probably concerned that an "old" sebenza won't go for as much.

I was strongly tempted to bid on the large last month, the old ones really had a nice polish!

I purchased a small sebbie from them in 1997 (DOB Feb 1997) that came with BG42 but handle numbered 89. If I'm not mistaken they were numbering the first few coming from the new shop. Previous knives had come from 6147 Coproral Lane, Boise, ID.

Bought a small Sebbie from 1996 and it was one of the ones with ATS34 blade. I love it...Cannot remember if it was numbered - need to check.

The seller of this sebenza stated that he purchased the knife from Chris when he ran a smaller shop & the wait list was 4-5 months. Date of birth is Sept. 2, 1996. Knife is NIB, never used and he has no idea why it is numbered 60 on the card and frame. He stated that he received lots of emails on it and 24 people had it on their "watch list"
Seems lots of folks thought something was different about this one.

CRK numbered the first 200 of the new style Sebenzas, be they large, small, decorated or plain. I have a small #70 with an ATS-34 blade, I'll check the date when I get back to SF.

I received the above mentioned small Sebenza today and it is exactly as the seller stated, NIB & unused with everything!
The white CRK box has the 1996 year #12 stamp on top and the side is marked " Small Sebenza New Shape #60 Stonewashed"
The DOB card is dated September 2, 1996 and also states #60 New Shape, ATS34,
The knife is mint and the first thing I noticed is that the blade grind is stonewashed but the flats are polished,
The #60 is stamped on the front slab at the rear near the lanyard hole.
Interesting paperwork with the knife includes a sheet on how to care for your Sebenza, a sheet on how the pocket clip is now standard on all Sebenzas and another sheet telling that the clip is for convenience only and that CRK will not be responsible for loss.
As you can probably tell, I'm more then pleased with my latest addiction,
Uh, I meant addition ;)
