I'm stuck between 2 knives. The Spyderco Sage Carbon fiber. And the ZT 0566. Both of which I've seen get a lot of love in the bf community. I realize they are totally different knives but I can only do one right now and don't know which one to pull the trigger on. Or maybe you have an alternative? All opinions and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you been able to hold them in your hand yet? What is your preference in regards to pocket weight/space?

My personal preference is the ZT 0566. I find for me that I like the extra weighty feel of the ZT's over the Spyderco's. In this this particular comparison the 0566 is 2oz heavier.

I don't know of a single place around where I live that I can get my hands on either. Which sucks. And the pm 2 just isn't my style

Neither do we. Most people buy knives based on what they see on the forums or online shops, sight unseen. Going this route, getting your research done become more important than not. My advice is the buy the one you like the best, after all you're going to be the one stuck with it, whatever you decide. What works for me, might not work for you.

I get to see them a the Spyderco Outlet in Golden! (Not to rub it in or anything...)

ZT makes nice knives. But the Sage One is one of my favorite knives. Excellent size to be used and carried. You ll appreciate the lighter weight of the Sage unless you intend the knife for very heavy use.

+1 hence my original reply with bold lettering on what works for me.

Compare all the specs on each knife and do a price shipped comparison and make the best informed decision based on that. Lets not forget the look of them too. Personal preference on how sexy you think each one to be may be the deciding factor considering you plan on using them for the same tasks. As RevDevil pointed out "you're going to be the one stuck with it" (until you find somebody to trade you on the exchange ;) )

Personally what I would do is try to find a cheap knife that is close enough to those knives, in the ZT 0566 case kershaw has some other Hinderer designs. And spyderco has some other designs which are probably close to what your after in the Sage. Than after you get a feel for them by using them for a little while buy the one you like more. I'd do it that way or else I probably end up with a lot more expensive knife purchases. Or you may end up doing what I typically do and you find that you refine your taste a bit more and now neither knife fits what you want and you are looking for something entirely different.

ZT's have always looked a little mall ninja-ish to me. I'd go with the sage.

Have tons of respect for ZT and have been a Kershaw carrier since I was a kid. Just don't like the aesthetics.

As you yourself said, they are two totally different knives.

The Sage 1 is what I would call a "refined", elegant design, and makes a nice gentleman's folder. The deep pocket wire clip make it appropriate for practically any dress style from jeans to formal.

The ZT is a larger, beefier, no-nonsense, ride-it-like-you-stole-it, "wha'd-you-say-about-my-mama?" knife.

Which style do you prefer?

The Spyderco Gayle Bradley is a pretty good compromise between the two (taking the size/weight and the heavier intended use of the ZT with the CF, lock and opening hole of the S1). Its a great knife, think about it instead.

Here's what I would do:

(1) Buy BOTH;
(2) Decide which one I want to keep;
(3) Sell the other to one of the good folks here on the forum;
(4) Repeat with two other knives that I can't decide between.

Seems like I always have something incoming and something outgoing, and that's a good thing!

It all comes down to what you need the knife for. If you looking for a nice EDC knife, go with the Sage. If you looking for a heavy duty knife, go with the ZT566. Both knives are very comfortable in the hand.
