OK, I'm wanting a day hike size pack, something that would be as comfortable on a day long hike in the woods as it would be walking around inside the Waverly at the Blade show. Large enough to hold a 70+ oz bladder, camera/acc, jacket, and associated junk. Something around the size of a Hydrastorm Ripper.

I've looked at Camelback and Hydrastorm found a couple of each that I like but want some input and maybe alternate manufacturers to look at. Any suggestions/input appreciated.

I'd say either one of those would be just fine for you. I have a Camelback, the MULE, that works fine for short trips when I don't have alot of gear. The RIPPER from Hydrastorm looks good to me, too. I almost bought this one but settled for the Tactician instead because of the added room.

If you're curious about the Tactician, I have some PDF files. Just let me know.

I carry and use a Camelback Trans-Alp pack. It has a 100 oz. bladder and 1740 cubic inches of cargo space. I find it to be very comfortable on long hikes. It also comes with a stow-away rain cover on the bottom of the pack. You should check it out. I will be upgrading to the 2002 Trans Alp. I have a 1999 model.

The CamelBak Blowfish is a very popular model with a 100oz capacity. It's full body zipper allows it to remain trim and compact until you fill it up, at which point it expands.

For something bigger, the CamelBak MILITARY HAWG is a good choice. The Military Camelbaks are constructed tougher then their soccer mom cousines ;)

I also really like the CamelBak Omega resevoir. The 100oz Unbottle bag fits nicely into an existing pack.

I have a Trans-Alp too and I think itz great. Definately stay with Camelbak because they make the best hydration stuff. I also have a M.U.L.E that I use for mountain biking and I couldn't live without is.

Camelback just came out with a bladder that it easier to fill and easier to clean. $30 will get you the new 100 oz. bladder.

Wow, that Trans-Alp thing looks just like a sissier version of my Hydrastorm!! I mean, almost exactly!
