Another PM2 rave (heh, sorry)

Hey all,

I mostly lurk around here, but I couldn't resist posting. I don't have a major knife collection, fewer than 20 worth talking about. A lot to most normal citizens, a paltry number in these parts. I have some decent steel, including a couple of forum snags that retail for north of $200, so I am not hurting for quality slicey stabby things.

I am a big Spyderco fan. But the Paramilitary 2 never filled any holes for me, so I never snagged one. Until now. No reason, just wanted one. Looked nice. Looked useful. Looked comfortable. Plain Jane S30V, black G-10.

Wow. Expectations exceeded. Typical of Spyderco, fit and finish were virtually perfect. The blade is perfectly centered, bevel grind is nearly flawless, and of course it push-cut paper straight out of the box. It's as comfortable as it looks in pics, is light, disappears in the pocket and the clip grips firmly. But what made me spontaneously smile (for real) is how smooth this thing is. I think someone snuck bearings around the pivot; all it takes is the lightest flick to open, yet there is no, none, blade play. This is my first compression lock, and I am equally impressed. Luckily I work with a lot of engineers, and they are unfazed by unnecessary knife flicking.

The only negative: why does Sal have them assembled with the clip the wrong way? Tip UP, people. Sheesh. But options are cool, and a minute with a Torx bit and blue Loctite took care of that.

This is kind of silly, raving about the world's most raved about knife. Sorry (kinda). I couldn't help myself.

Carry on.

The PM2 was my second “serious” folder.
I have had 2 versions of this model and I still have a s110v which I like a lot
I just got an all black PM3 this week and it is a very good complement to the PM2

IMO neither the PM2 nor the Para3 are over-hyped
They are excellent folders for most tasks

NO YOU DIDNT!!!! HOW DARE YOU??!?! PM2 OR NOTHING!!! JUST KIDDING.....to each his own
But really.....PM2
PM2 leads the way for me to , but really give a try to the Para3... it has surprised me.
The para 3 needs to change the clip for a deeper carry one but really it makes a great sidekick to the PM2 when a shorter blade can be required

I did , pm3 maxamet.......too small for my hands.....blade kinda small too....

I had a similar experience. I have 55 knives all new just for display. I only carry two and rotate them. I finally bought a PM2 and quickly owned 16 variations! LOL. It also caused me to grab 3 other Spydercos. 2 Yojimbo's and 1 Amalgam

Glad you like the PM2 OP.
I have 11 of them all in different steels, most carried model by far for me. Don't need that many, cool to have though.

Only thing I can think of at the moment that might take over my RFP from PM2 dominance, is if I ever get my hands on a Cru-wear micarta Shaman.

I LOVE the PM2! I carry mine more than anything. It’s is my overall favorite knife.

My only gripe with the PM2 is it’s not fun to take apart and reassemble. It clearly wasn’t designed to do that.

Where do you have a problem? Lanyard tube?

Really easy.....just have a patience. What i do is , slowly going up and down(in pulling apart motion)while turning both scales 380....until separated.....
Assembly: secret is to make sure it is aligned correctly, after that squeeze as much as you can with your hands....and final step; i use 2 hockey pucks... put almost assembled knife in between them and squeeze it till i hear click.....All done. G-10 wont get hurt. If you have Ti, CF, aluminum scales all the same. Yes i did mess up 1 or 2 tubes as well, untill i learned.

My Gayle Bradley 1, my EDC, will chew up any PM 2 to pieces. That said, I still have a bunch of PM 2's which I'm a big fan of.
