Hey all,
I mostly lurk around here, but I couldn't resist posting. I don't have a major knife collection, fewer than 20 worth talking about. A lot to most normal citizens, a paltry number in these parts. I have some decent steel, including a couple of forum snags that retail for north of $200, so I am not hurting for quality slicey stabby things.
I am a big Spyderco fan. But the Paramilitary 2 never filled any holes for me, so I never snagged one. Until now. No reason, just wanted one. Looked nice. Looked useful. Looked comfortable. Plain Jane S30V, black G-10.
Wow. Expectations exceeded. Typical of Spyderco, fit and finish were virtually perfect. The blade is perfectly centered, bevel grind is nearly flawless, and of course it push-cut paper straight out of the box. It's as comfortable as it looks in pics, is light, disappears in the pocket and the clip grips firmly. But what made me spontaneously smile (for real) is how smooth this thing is. I think someone snuck bearings around the pivot; all it takes is the lightest flick to open, yet there is no, none, blade play. This is my first compression lock, and I am equally impressed. Luckily I work with a lot of engineers, and they are unfazed by unnecessary knife flicking.
The only negative: why does Sal have them assembled with the clip the wrong way? Tip UP, people. Sheesh. But options are cool, and a minute with a Torx bit and blue Loctite took care of that.
This is kind of silly, raving about the world's most raved about knife. Sorry (kinda). I couldn't help myself.
Carry on.
