Another question about gaps

Hi all,
I recently scored a beautiful 2nd run Blackwood Charlow at auction (Pen behind spear) and even with a few dings and the gaps in the liners, it's pretty solid. Good walk & talk like my other Charlows, and centered blades. The gaps are pretty noticeable though, and I can actually close them by squeezing the knife between my fingers. I've clamped it, blades open, and decided to let it sit for a bit. My question to you all, is do you think by just clamping it, the gaps will close up permanently? Or will they just spring back (to gap) due to some unknown to me tension from the build process? Lastly, would GEC remedy this, or is it just being picky? Pics if needed for an opinion, but we all know what gaps look like...

Did the seller disclose the gaps? Send it back to the seller. Those gaps are gonna gap forever. Send it to GEC. They're the ones that messed up when they assembled it. BUT if the gaps are so slight that you can't insert a piece of typing paper between the covers and liners or liners and spine, etc., live with it and enjoy the knife.

The gaps are there to stay. Clamping it won't do a thing.

I personally think you are being too picky. You have a used knife there, complete with the requisite dings. You expect GEC to fix it? For free? Every repair sent in takes time, and hence costs money. It adds up and affects a company's profitability. Sending in this particular knife is abusing GEC's repair policy. If they get taken advantage enough in that way they will eventually change that policy, in which case we will all lose.

I'm with you on this Christian, I was just curious if gaps are an issue that makers address. Ya know Ed, the gap is large enough to get at least one sheet of typing paper through, but ya know what? I can totally live with it, which surprises me, because usually it would bug me to distraction. Must be an age thing... The knife was described as new, unused, un-sharpened, and the pics were lovely, but, did not show a spine shot showing gaps, or what I guess would be "someone's" attempt to correct the issue resulting in a few dings. No, I will not send it off to GEC and waste their time, like I said the blades are centered, there's good snap, and I now have a 2 blade spear that I'll "carry" thanks to a "pen behind the spear". Above all, I got it for such a great price, I should be flogged for even a hint of dis-satisfaction. Thanks for your opinions gents!

Personally, gaps don't bother me too much.
