Do these knives still command a premium? Is it correct to assume that a serial numbered knife marked "Made in South Africa" dates back at least to 1989? I saw one for sale but wonder whether it is superior to the more recently made knives in anything other than collectibility. TIA for any insights by the experts here.

In case there was any interest, a South Africa marked Mountaineer in mint condition currently brings in $326.95.

I'd like to hear from some of the knowledgeable people here too if they think there's a difference in the build/quality of the SA Mountaineeer vs. the USA (recent) versions. I have a SA and the coating appears darker. Love the knife, but wondering if selling it for a premium, get a new MT I and make off with a few extra bucks is wise. Just curious.

Actually, I doubt I could part with it. Carried for years and just one of those knives that has a sort of 'magic' for me. So the "just curious" part strictly applies. (I believe Chris ground this one himself.)
