Another question for Sal - Peter Herbst sale @ Spyderco-site

I just ordered one of the ATS-55 leftovers, in plain-edge, at the spyderco site for a measly $49,95. Including shipping and customs/tax -the latter to be paid separately over here- it'll definitely not be as cheap as for you American Spydie-fans, but I've gone for it anyway. I like its moderate looks and its shape and size very much resemble my BM 690 which is one of my favourite EDC's.

In advance, I found some threads about quality-issues with some of the Herbst-series. I've found myself willing to take the small risk however; a specific question for Sal would be:

Is this the series with the less than ultra-tough ball-detent in the liner-lock? I'm rotating a good handful of EDC's so it wouldn't see very frequent and hardcore use anyway, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

TIA!

Hi Peter. These are the good ones. They were closed out to make room for newer models.

Great! Plus, I just got an e-mail that it's already on its way. I like this brand and its people! And its mad-looking knives ofcourse.

:D

Good to know. I ordered one of these, too.

My Herbst folder (PE) is waiting for me in my office and I will get my hands on it as soon as I get back into the country.

Based on what I've been reading here could the blade steel be VG10? Or is it ATS-55?

From the words of the famous Ray Stevens song, "The Streak"... "Too Late Ethel".

I just got the last $50 Herbst 50/50 in VG10.

Phone in one hand mouse in the other.

The nice man at the SFO also told me that the Black Blade Military is going to be SV30 CPM and the suggested retail is right at the same as the non-blackened blade version.
