Is it appropriate to ask what the fair market value is for a specific knife under normal circumstances? And if it is which forum should be used? Thanks

You have to have a gold or better membership to ask about value which you do.

Whichever forum seems appropriate. If its a Buck knife go to Buck section etc.

If you put it in the wrong place a moderator might move it. To a better place.

While you can feel free to ask because you have the necessary membership level to do so, the best reference will be finding comparable sales on the marketplace you intend to use. Prices can vary pretty significantly between here, Reddit, eBay, consigners like Arizona Custom Knives, etc. This can be hard if you have something unique, hard to find, or otherwise uncommon that doesn't change hands on the secondary market very often. Knowledgeable members here will be able to at least help identify a knife and possibly track down comparable sales or give an idea of what the knife cost new or how it may have increased/decreased in value since then.

maybe put the topic of your question in the title of your post so it attracts the members who have interest in your query .

J jbib Cats outta the bag now, what’s the knife you want info on?
Its a Case kickstart trapperlock. I followed the advice of Dragon Man and was able to save a significant amount on one I purchased online!

With Case knives, values can vary based on what the blade steel is, what handle material the knife is made with, how many of the variant you own were produced, the condition it’s in, is the packaging with it, plus more. After a basic search it looks like the kickstart trapperlock was released fairly recent (2019 or so), I’d guess values would be close to what they sold for retail but I could be way off, there’s a lot of variables and info that no one has. Pics of the condition help too.

My attraction is pedestrian. It looks good, is a case, and fits my definition of a sensible EDC (which will be its intended purpose)

Ok now it sounds like the value isn’t a concern, this is a puzzling thread!
