Don't know why I waited so long- what a great knife! Got it a couple weeks ago- same day as my ZT 0801 came too. Funny thing is, I was just as happy with the Rat! Ergos are , love the grind and it came sharp! When I cut apples with both the ZT and Rat- made me wonder why I got the ZT! The Rat us a cutter for sure! Here are a few pics...and I'll just say it cut everything very well and is a laser on the fruit.

Enough yadda yadda yadda..on to the pics! :D

Did great on cardboard- smoked the ZT here...

Both did well on this seasoned wood- think the zt a bit better although the handle on the Rat was more comfortable. Should add the edge on the Rat held up great to this wood. My 1st experience with aus 8...I like!

Wasn't my goal to really compare the two- just happened because they landed the same day...two different purposes with these knives I think.

But anyway- I can't imagine a better $30 buy with this Rat 1! Glad I finally got around to trying it.

Rat fan here.
Was an edc for close to a year before I lost it.

If I didn't have a bunch of other options, I'd have replaced it by now.

I got my rat in a trade, never intended on getting one. But I am sure glad I got it. The knife i traded for stays in my drawyer, the rat stays in my pocket!

In my opinion the Rat 1 and 2 are the absolute best value knives on the market. I bought a Rat 1 a few months ago and I ended up giving it to my Dad for Father's Day. I just recently started missing it a lot and I think I'm gonna pick up another one along with a Rat 2.

I gave my brother a Rat 1 as he was just getting into knives. He loved it. He now has several more expensive blades but most of the time when I see him it's the Nasty Rat in his pocket.

I'll buy two more just in case and two rat2,the first rat i got is now full of filework on spine, handles but not finished yet.For some reasen i respect that knife!!
Dont know to post pics..yet.

My RAT 1's have an honored place in my rotation. They are ergonomic, great fit 'n finish and worth more than double their asking price, imo.

I own a Rat 1 & 2 thanks to recommendations on this forum - high quality blades at bargain prices. Happy to have these as the foundation for my collection

I never would have thought to get one without all the good things people here have said about it.

I'm sure it's been discussed before though- I have wondered a few times about an upgraded model...g10 handle, titanium liner...maybe in s30v...oh my, I would own one of those too!!

I too waited too long to get one & just picked one up @ Bass Pro Shop in SC a few week ago on vacation. Best $40 knife I have ever gotten. Wish I would have picked up 2 but absolutely love that knife & it has replaced all others as my EDC folder

It certainly deserves all the praise. Couldn't really fit my hand any better. Pretty happy w/ the AUS8, holds an edge decent and easily sharpens up. It was my workhorse for over a year and took the abuse well. I can find them new online for $25 shipped and at that price it's just a killer deal.

Going to keep the thread going a smidge more b/c I got a Military in this week...one of the reasons I was curious about both these knives is my nephew is bound for the Marines this winter and I knew I would be gifting him a folder after basic. These are two of the leading contenders...

Had a mail order ammo pick up at Cabelas which means boxes boxes boxes!

The reduced that ^^^ into this readily...

The Spyderco did cut better, but it also has the factory fresh edge that hasn't cut too much yet while I haven't touched up the Rat as yet. Although, I am thinking the angle of the blade/handle on the Military is going to help it's cutting ability!

For my nephew I'm leading towards the Rat and an Izula II...I already got him a nice Leatherman for high school graduation.
