Another rebranded Council HB "Horse axe"

I've been seeing a trend in more of these "boutique" camping gear sites. While I like the idea of promoting old school camping equipment and techniques, as a guy who did most of his early hiking in the same sneakers I wore to school, I'm having a hard time picturing what a camping trip where your filled pack costs more than my car would look like.

These guys must be Best Made's neighbors. Even looks like they took inspiration from their website design. I will say I have a bit of interest in their camping knife. 3/32 scandi could be very nice. But, at $195 with the sheath I think there are a lot of other solid options out there. I mean, they don't even mention the steel used.

Oh man, I don't usually comment on these things. But, for a brand trying to be outdoorsy they have a waxed canvas *flatbill* hat. What the...?!? I don't even know where to begin on that.

I noticed that upon opening the website. They are also clearly well-versed in instagram filter usage also.

As for that scandi knife, if you scroll down further it says that its 1095 with ghost jade g10. Apparently 1095 is known for its "superior edge retention"

You've gotta out hipster the hipsters somehow!

I forgot the name of this one company- but their marketing included messaging that was branding themselves as a provider of "outdoor lifestyle" clothing. You know, not actual "outdoor clothing." Just the "lifestyle" version of such. This is the kind of stuff that makes it tough to have a beard in 2014. You get lumped in with the outdoor-lifestylers.

Must have missed that. For the price there are much better options, imo. One in particular, I got a 1084FG Daniel Fairly chisel/zero ground "bushcraft candy" for $100 (w/ a lovely Kydex sheath) a few years ago. It's a very frequent companion in the outdoors.

It's getting to the point that carrying an axe isn't enough to help

Psshhh...I've had a beard for years, well before the hipsters got them.

Wait..does that mean...am I...a hipster?

Crap...guess I better buy that axe and the flatbill.

I went back to look at the waxed hats that I must have missed before... all of a sudden their site is down? Maybe they couldn't sell enough $200 plumb hatchets to pay godaddy?

Here in Montana we call these types "lumber sexual"... they grow beards and wear plaid and try to look like a timber feller but have probably never so much as mown their own lawn.

first i thought it was an axe for carrying while riding a horse for some long range expedition, and it appears to be a trend stuff,!
if people is ***** (you name it) enough to pay all that money for such a thing, tell them i have got some rare painted axes to sell.
ask for color!:p

On one level though I'm glad that a US company is able to find a market for their axes. Council seems to be the only game in town for the "boutique" sites to source quality made in the USA wares.
