Hey all, I have been into folders for years and am just starting to get into some fixed blades.

The only fixed blade I have is a Gerber Prodigy that was gifted to me when I graduated boot camp.

I've used it for camping before but I think it's more geared toward combat use.

It looks like the Ratmandu is what I'm looking for but I want to make sure.

I sold off my Hinderer and Strider to fund a custom that fell through and now I have a hole burning :eagerness:

Also, I see that I can order one from their website but that it has a pretty long build time. How often do they pop up on the exchange and is it worth taking the chance over not ordering one?

Thanks!

RMD's come up on the exchange once in a while but more often you'll see the custom-shop and special editions there, for a regular one you could post in the "Wanted to Buy" section and see if anyone has one to let go. But to get exactly the color/materials combination that you want, contacting the shop is the best way to go... especially if you decide you're interested in a FFG or a drop-point or some other variation on the standard RMD. Here is a thread from Rat-Chat with lots of pics: http://forums.swampratknifeworks.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/39192/Share_your_RMD_s.html

RATMANDU!!!!

Is it bad that every time I see a recommendation thread I just type RMD without even reading the post? My last RMD order took about 2 weeks to complete its all about when you place the order. If you email the shop Trissie might be able to give you a more accurate time line.

Ratmandu all the way. You've seen the talk and the "hype" it's all true.
Mine goes with me to the grave.
It's more than worth the wait time for a knife that was literally made for you...along with others for others.
But I've come to enjoy the wait time as a great buildup to getting the knife, plenty of time to learn as much about it as you can.

Just in case you need more reason to buy one.

The wait will let you decide on what sheath to go with.
There is several kydex or leather options, or hybrids, form some of the members on the forum.
