For a user, do you prefer satin finish or double cut? And why? I would love to see pics of your satin/dcbb users as well. Thanks in advance.

I like satin. The scratches seem to blend in better and it's easy to "restore" without a bead blaster.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DC ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO, the best all around "user" finish you can have. Takes a beating better than a satin does, just smooths out and doesn't really leave scratches behind like the satin does. Is it as pretty as the satin? Depends if you find black canvas pretty... something to be said about the beauty of Functionality!

Here's a couple user pics that I've found. One, I believe, is flatlanders SH variant. I'm not sure whose SFNO this is.

I'd love to see some more pics, if you guys have any. :D

In a couple of weeks, I'm taking my SJTAC-LE out for a beating. Will post some pics.

Also have a DC HOGFSH coming from Busse at some point. It will be assigned a user rank.

So... stay tuned. :D

Sweet! What are the two bottom ones- and are the different grinds standard?
Like 360, I can't figure out which I like better between the two, but I'd like to get either one with those snakeskin scales- Congrats on such a nice set!

Dremel and Flitz and a polishing wheel? Do tell....

That's what I used on a rather stained Cold Steel Master Hunter (Carbon V) blade after a successful hunt and a lost knife.

I field dressed my deer. Dragged it Lord knows how far to a dirt road near where I'd parked. Walked another half mile to my truck. Stashed my gear and drove back to the "rendezvous" point. Loaded the deer. Drove to my local processor and unloaded the deer. Got home. Cleaned up.

Next day, I started wondering... where did that knife go? I looked everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Figured I lost it in the woods like a dumbass. Then, miracle of miracles, I found it stashed under the driver's side seat of my truck (duh) that evening. The bits of remaining blood had penetrated the carbon steel and left dark marks, and there was even a tinge of rust here and there.

Out came the Dremel and the Flitz. It looked almost new when I got done.

nope,,

no dremel or any type of compound was used.

360,

This BM-E originally had a smoth coat. When it got worn enough Leatherhog gave it either a regular BB or DCBB. I'm not 100% sure but I am sure he can clarify. I have done some test chopping and so far it shows wear or marks less so than do my satin blades. I am really impressed with it and it looks just as good, or better, than satin IMHO. She is my user so I can post pics after more extended use, which will start next week with lots of chopping and batonning.

Galaxy,

That blade cleaned up really nice.

For my clarification as well as others please post an explanation of double cut and satin finish including how those finishes were developed, are produced, and the ups and downs of each.

Also, what is BB and BBDC? That is a new one on me.

I have to say i like both finishes, but would lean towards the DC b/c of the matte finish. I really like that.

Thanks.

"Also, what is BB and BBDC? That is a new one on me."

bb = bead blast
bbdc = bead blast double cut

the double cut process meaning the steel has to be finished before hand, making it smooth (basically satin) for the bead blast process, then its blasted more then normal to make sure its extra smooth

I used "The Galaxytech Method" on a AD and on my BA-E and it worked perfectly. Really easy and yields great results.

As far as pros and cons of each finish: I noticed that my DCBB does not reflect as much light as my Satin.

well,,the BB=Bead Blast, and DC=Double Cut ,they are the same blade finish but called diffrent names.

the term DC or BB refers to the finish of the blade after it has been taken to the satin stage of finishing, then twice blasted(Double Cut) with glass beads of diffrent coarsness, the last being the finest.

the satin finish is simply a brushed/polished finish.

there have been posts in the past that explain these two finishes in much better detail than i can try to explain.

I really like both finishes,,,but i think my favorite is the Double Cut also
