I'm hoping for some advice on where I might find a new bowsaw with at least a 48" blade. I have a 36 incher but want something longer. I'm aware of the Tuatahi crosscut saws available from Bailey's in 4 and 5 ft lengths, but am not quite ready to spring for something that expensive.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Make your own frame saw. Go to a good saw shop and get the length blade you need, make the frame and strechers and you are in business.

Mike,

Thanks very much for the link. Do you know anyone who has used any of those saws and, if so, what their opinion was? They look pretty interesting.

Peter,

That's a good suggestion, especially if I can't locate a pre-fabricated frame. Maybe when I get to Alaska I'll have more time for such projects (and a greater likelihood of finding the right blade).

Sorry to say that I don't know of anyone who can answer your query. I have ordered some sharpening items and a brush cutter, I was pleased with the service. Almost everything that is available was commonly used on the farm prior to the availability of todays power tools. Mike
