I thought I'd share some pics I took today as a result of my Scout project - just before it started to rain. Mine turned out to be a bit more of a droppoint blade.
Thanks to the inspiration from this forum and especially from PiterM :)

A splendid knife to have my friend ! You did a nice job on the kydex too by the looks of it. I can tell you from bitter experience that the one piece knives are a PITA to fit up with kydex. :)

Thanks for the compliments! The kydex was made by a pro here in Germany. It fits perfectly and the knife snaps into it very securely.
I wouldn't dare to try - I'd probably only burn my fingers

Great looking knife, I love the various Scout versions that have been made. How did you match up the coating after grinding?

Nick, I etched it with a liquid called Ferro-III-Chloride*. They it use for etching copper on wiring boards. It has a very similar look and holds up pretty well.
If I found a source I'd rather have it coated properly, of course, but it works for me until then. If I scratch it too badly I can always repeat the process :)
I also use it to produce a "forced patina" on other carbon blades. It works within seconds (literally!)

( *I can't recommend to try this at home - I'm not an expert, this stuff is dangerous and you have to take several precautions  )

Ferric chloride (FeCl3) is actually pretty safe when mixed in solution with water, it won't burn you it just stains you yellow for a bit. I use it all the time for etching damascus blades and checking the temper lines on carbon blades after heat treat. (That said, it's still not safe for kids and pets to play with or drink, it's safe for an adult that is not an idiot).
