I have finally got back on track financially, and can (finally!) afford to buy a Sebenza. I've been eyeballing them for quite a while and can now afford to get one. I'm thinking about either a micarta inlay small 21 or a plain small 21.

Now what I'm afraid of is once I get a Seb, I'm not going to carry any of my other knives
I have heard it said a few times "Once you go Sebenza you never go back!"

Haha. I wish it was true :) Would've saved me from buying all the other knives :)

Sebenza is a standard of quality in production folder that you are going to compare other knives too. It doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the ideal knife for you.

That was not the case with me. I still carry my Spyderco or Benchmades on occasion. Those occasions are just not very often. I really like my Sebenzas and Umnumzaan but they are not the only knives that make it into my pocket.

The Sebenza is an excellent knife but it doesn't stop me from buying knives. Now I can concentrate on slipjoints and fixed blades.

I'm sure that I'll continue buying other knives and carrying other knives, just not as often :D

I'd go with the micarta 21. they age well and the canvas kinda looks like snake skin!

Thats what I'm leaning towards! It looks great!

I was looking at the micarta also but got the plain large 21. It is a great knife that I carry everyday.

It's just a nice knife, with assets and liabilities like anything else. Just buy it and enjoy it.

Things will sort themselves out as the years pass.

Like you, I have finally found some relief in my finances, and have a large Sebenza 21 with African Blackwood inserts coming mid December, I've been an extra good boy this year. I've also had a Sebenza or two in the past and found that I did put up my other knives in favor of the Sebenza. But then I went large, blades 4 inches or more, and then ended up having to sell the Sebenza due to a divorce in 2007. Now I am drifting back to the smaller knives, around 3.5 inches, and looking forward to the woody!

I received my first sebenza four weeks ago... Somehow my fourth one is arriving this week. Let's hope this pace slows down a bit

There's still quite a few folders from other makers in my stash that won't be replaced by the Sebbies & I never expected them to.

That being said, after my first Sebbie I didn't feel the need to keep my all my "sebenza-like" framelocks (skirmishes, pinnacle, Alias, sage II, etc) But owning all those other ti framelocks did allow me to see for myself why the sebenza was better for me. When I wanted to carry to ti framelock in the size and form of a small or large sebbie, there was no reason for me to reach for anything else.

But we don't always want to just carry a sebenza sized framelock, do we? For instance, I think my stash is woefully incomplete of a beefy ti folder. Perhaps, it's time for me to look into that XM-18 I keep reading about... :p

have no fear there are knives after a sebenza.

i put my small 21 in the drawer when my Izula arrived.

its a pretty good competitor so far, at least for me.

in reality, its going to be up to you how you use the knives and what you get out of them.

i have no doubt i will EDC my sebenza again in a few weeks. :)

I love my Micarta Small 21 more than any other knife right now. I have all kinds of knives and the Micarta gets more pocket time than any other and I still keep buying knives, but none of them have beaten the champ for very long. Get the Micarta 21 is my advice. The only other real competitor is my Yuna EQ1 with Zdp/Ats lamited blade. If the EQ had 1/2" longer blade it would probably be more of a match.

I am a huge fan of the sebenza as most of you that prowl the CRK forum know. I absolutely Love the Regular, especially the large regular, I like the small as well. As much as I love the regular, I find myself having almost the opposite feeling for the sebenza 21. I do not hate it, but I just dont like the blade shape. The handle is cool and I like the bigger thumb opening, but the blade shape of the 21 just does not do it for me. I have had a couple 21's this year and have sold all but one. Now all I have is a silver dog paws. I am thinking about sending it to CRK and have my dogs name engraved on it so I will not be able to sell it....lol, but I haven't yet. The profile on the regular is more of a drop point so to speak, while the blade on the 21 is a true clip point. I take nothing away from CRK, to me, its nice to have this problem, which sebenza, regular or 21 ? I will take a regular anyday. But in my experience, its true. Once you go sebenza, its hard to go elsewhere. I got into a strider kick last month and ended up with 3 of them total. A SMF which is definately a keeper. I sold a tanto SnG and am selling the other tanto SnG I got as well. Mostly to pay for a ceramic floor my wife wants. The SMF is awsome and I edc's it for a week, I got the sebenza out to compare them a week later and it has been in my pocket ever since. I like the SnG, but will get a spear point if I get another and stone washed to boot, but thats another story. The strider is awsome in every way, big beefy, nearly industructable folder, but the sebenza has that smoothness that you can only imagine if you handle one. Someday, probably next year, I wanna try a xm-18. They are supposed to have strider toughness with sebenza smoothness, but at the current rate of $800, forget it. I will edc my large regular sebenza always......My Advise, Get a Sebenza. If you want inlays, the 21 has a ton of different ones to offer. Let us know which one you get !!!

For me the Sebenza was a gradual and slow moving love affair. When I got my first one, I was not overly impressed. It wasn't as smooth an opener as a Benchmade, it was about the same sharpness as any Spyderco or Benchmade I've owned, and it had those dull titanium handles, nothing out of the ordinary. I wondered what the big deal was. Over time the knife grew on me though. I loved the nice solid thwak of the lock engaging when you opened the knife, and it's solid vault like lock up. Any degree of blade play in a knife drives me insane, so there were never any issues with blade play on a Sebenza. It was also very easy to take apart and clean/lube, unlike an axis lock BM or knives that use pins instead of screws. In time I flipped it for something else, and as soon as I passed it off the postal clerk and he slapped a postage paid sticker on it, I started to miss it.

Over the last couple of years I've owned several and flipped them for other knives along the way. Knives that I heard so much about and just had to see what all the hype was about. They ranged from high quality productions, to highly regarded customs. But none of them measured up to the performance, reliability, quality and simplicity of the Sebenza and I found myself having to work my way back to a Sebenza again after flipping the customs and other productions that didn't measure up.

From here on out I will always own a Sebenza, while I still rotate my EDC between Benchmade and Spyderco as well, but if I had to give up all my knives but one, the Sebenza would be the last man standing.

Sebenza's are excellent, excellent knives and are the best production knives out there. But, that does not keep me from buying custom knives at all. But, if I only owned production knives, then my Sebenza would get all the pocket time!
