I'm looking at buying a SGA for making my first liner locks and probably a framelock or two. I'd like to just have a standalone surface grinder but currently my shop is in a basement with no bulkhead entrance so any machine that large/heavy is not possible. I've done a lot of researching on the topic on here (hours) and see a lot of different opinions on whether they are sufficient for folders. So what are opinions from people who make folders and have used or do use a SGA? I'd also end up using the tool for other purposes but this is the driving reason for getting one. I will be getting one with at least the 90duro wheel and plan on taking very light finishing passes. There was a benchtop surface grinder near me but when I learned it still weighed 400-500lbs I had to pass on it...

I use my SGA on every knife both folders and fixed. It is how I finish all flats and taper all tangs. Once I finish the flat to 16X I cover them and protect them at all cost. Rarely do I need to redo one. My build is in the long SGA thread along with many others.

Yeah I've got a reeder that I run a metal wheel on for the most accuracy and it works pretty well... I don't think I'd use it on folders personally but you could hand lap afterwards.

I just snagged a NRT on /off magnetic chuck that I'm gonna mount to it as well... Gonna be sweet!

Thanks everyone for your replies, got a lot to consider! Even if I have to hand lap afterwards it would get me closer to parallel and flat than my disc. I also have to consider buy vs build...
