i am sorry to all cause im sure this has been asked millions of times ,but i'm still a noob when it comes to sharpening. just got a wicked edge and love it now that i can finally sharpen something, lol. also got some buffing wheel compound from sears, wasn't real sure so i got the green and white bar. my goal is to get as close to a mirror finish as i can and after an hour stropping my one knife i could see parts of the blade starting to shine up nice, but still far from that edge im hoping for. my question is , i just ordered the 800/1000 stones for the wicked edge and also the dmt 1,3,6 paste. did i waste my time on doing this? i just have a feeling i skipped a step and need a few more grit stones before the paste or can i go to the paste after the 1000? again im sorry guys still a noob.

Don't worry mate, we all go through this and there are a variety of ways to get your mirror finish. You have made a great start. I can only tell you my path and that may help you.
In addition to the tools you already have, I also ordered and now use the ceramic hones from Clay. This set of stones was a great step forward to a mirror-like finish on my edges. You didn't mention or I didn't notice whether you have the leather strops or not, but those will help immeasureably and also help keep all your edges razor sharp as well as help maintain convex edges.
One last step I took was to buy an extra set of strops from Clay and also a couple of sample packages of 3M PSA Micro Abrasive Tapes which I cut into strips and place on the strops (PSA tapes have a sticky backing). I use these with various grits/microns to put a final polish on the edges of my knives. You can order these sheets from here:

One can go on and on with various polishing methods until you are now polishing the surfaces of atoms ;)...it all depends how addicted you are to mirror edges! LOL

Best regards

The WEPS is such a great tool and there are many things people seldom realize about this fine rig... one is that it can be used to change an edge from one kind or another into a convex edge or visa-versa. Please note, I said a 'convex edge' not into a 'convex blade'! This gives you great versatility with your collection so you can now change edge configurations accurately and at will.
If you are interested go to this part of the Wicked Edge site:

Clay is working on a lot of innovations and these will be appearing over the next few weeks. I am excited about these surprising new features so I can hardly wait!

Best to all

ya, i don"t have the strops from we. i was just using scrap leather i had and putting the white and green buffing compound from sears on it. i also had thought about what you said getting some of the extra strops and putting higher grades of sand paper on them to save a couple of bucks on higher grit stones. I will say one thing i am glad i got a wicked edge, love the sharpener even if i learn freehand sharpening i will still use this tool. thanks for the advice and input Leo.
