Got this beauty from another member here recently. I'm just curious to see what info anyone has on it. It has a very small swedge. Smooth Micarta with slotted bolts. It came with what I believe to be a factory Kydex sheath. Thank you in advance.

Blade Runner 7,
From going through the info in the links posted by others in the "SHBM - getting to know the big girl (pic heavy)" thread: The all smooth slabs indicate a very early SHBM. The minimal swedge indicates not a 1 of 300 but a "standard". i assume that others will chime in if I'm mistaken or if there is additional info. That thread is worth a look for SHBM info.

BTW - Have a good weekend?

Yes, that is one of the earliest models right there. I have that exact one, except mine is beat to hell. If you measure thickness it should be over 0.28 and maybe closer 0.3" thick. The profile of the blade is very thick near the tip and not flat ground. These are the oldest SHBM's. good find.

Oh, and that is also the blade that the first LE's were based off of. Then other LE's came in 1/300 styles and then hollow tube LE's as well.

here is mine with coating removed long ago.

and here is one that was beat to hell and sent back to busse in 2000- 01 for a refinish and busse installed hollow tube handles and put an ergo emblem on it. This one is a monster. It is still 0.3 even after an LE grade finish by Jerry himself.

Thanks guys! I didn't know the earliest models had that little swedge. I knew Cobalt would come to the rescue!:p You helped me recently with another old school SHBM that I had.

I just measured the new one and it's .27". Might be a little off though because I'm using a cheap Harbor Freight caliper. When I got this one in, I noticed that it felt much heavier than my older model. The scales are way thicker too. I weighed the two when I had both.

As you can see, the slotted bolt one weighs 3 oz more. It feels like a bigger difference than that though. Maybe because the Micarta slab are so much thicker.

Now the big question is....to use it or not to use it. I really love the old SHBMs. They beg to be used more than any other BM that I can think of. I really should have kept that other one just so I could use it.

That ergo logo is TERRIBLE on that SHBM.

No regrets:D

You will have lots of fun using that one, but I understand not wanting to use it. Mine is pretty beat so I don't care. But I have a few minty ones that I will not touch.
